Need Advice! Venue picked, but stuck b/w 2 dates

Hi all,

After a month plus of venue searching, my fiance and I are settled on the Doubletree Ocean Point in Sunny Isles - thanks to all who helped me scout out spots!

Now the new issue has been setting the date. I keep going back and forth between February 26 and April 2, 2011. Here are my thoughts:

Feb: Nice weather for out of town people from NYC and Iowa, less chance of rain, but then I am worried b/c it was so cold this year. Also, you ladies have turned me on to photog Ashley Couhlier (sp) and she is not available that day.

April: Higher chance for rain/hot weather, but more light because of daylights savings (ceremony/cocktail hour is outside).  This date would also mean 5 additional weeks of wedding planning - somewould call it heaven, at this point I would say the opposite  :)  Is it crazy to consider this date above the other b/c photog is not available in Feb? I am in the process of setting up an appointment with her later this month, but have not met her yet - I just love all of the work of hers I have seen and her prices fit in my budget.

Any help, thoughts, etc. on this would be much appreciated. Sorry I was so longwinded.

Tarin

I think if you really love Ashley, and want to use her - wait until April.  Yeah the weather may be an issue.  But in SoFla the weather can always be an issue no matter the time of year.  Congrats on your venue! :)

If you're really set on Ashley, then I say April. The weather is crazy here in FL...so you just never know either way.

I say April, than again I am an April bride, so I am partial...

But the reason I say April is also because of the cold winter weather. Though it is unlikely, it would be bad if guests got stuck because of storms, blizzards, etc.

We went for April for a lot of the reasons you list. Crossing fingers there are no showers, but overall I like the weather in April more so than in February.

April, mainly b/c the photog you want is available but also  b/c the weather in April is usually great too. You never know what you're going to get with weather. Jan is one of the dryest months but it rained on my wedding day. So go for April and book ashley!

    Ladies,

Thank you all so much for your insight. This is really helping me and my sanity. Tom and I are going to meet with Ashley next week and that should give us some a final decision. Why is this all driving me crazy??

April! I'm an April bride and April is a pretty dry month in Miami. Miami weather is crazy, as the ladies said...but you're getting your day light...and Ashley!

My friend got married in November, her mother in law was 2 hours late to the wedding and by 5:30, she was tearing up b/c she had no daylight left for her outdoor photos.
April will be hot and Feb a little bit cooler, but I think you'd be leaning towards April. Besides, you'll have 1 year to plan, vs 10 months. Take it from me, who's wedding is in 3.5 weeks, I have NO Idea how we got here so fast. Enjoy and get all of your stuff done early.

    Congrats!

Hey Tarin! How are you lady? We have to catch up soon! I took my epics w/ Ashley, so call me if you want to chat (I can get your # from Aarrin or vice versa).  I agree w/ the other ladies, daylight and photog you want are very important, so I would go w/ April. ;)

April seems the best month for you. Forget about the weather, in South Florida anything could happen. But you have good points, the light and your photographer. It seems you're set on Ashley, hun. And the worst thing you can do is settle for another photographer you don' dig as much.

    April! lol.

I agree with everyone -- I'm an April 24th bride so I'm partial but April is the best! ;) hahaha.. plus snow in Feb (I live in Philly) can be crazy and make flights down south a possible no-go!

Personally, I would go with April. I know for a fact that it is still snowing in Iowa. My family lives there and depending on where your family lives it could be difficult for them to even leave their houses. And with how the weather was this year, I wouldn't want to chance it.

Having extra time to take photos in the daylight is a major plus also.

I agree with PP and all points! I think you will be happier if you waited till April!
    Congrats on the venue!

I say February... only because my wedding is on 4/2/2011 and I want Ashley too!Smile  Haha, no worries though.  I have other photographers that I like as well.  I didn't think I had to book so far in advance, but I guess I do.  Glad you selected the Doubletree.  I looked at the venue too.  Terry is really responsive and constantly followed-up with me.  We selected April because it won't be as windy or as cold are February.  Good luck!

LOL ARose29. What venue did you end up selecting?

Hilton Marina.  Sent the deposit in yesterday too.  We have over 65 out of town guests and wanted to be closer to the airport.

February is much nicer weather, and less chance of rain.  Remember... April showers bring May flowers!
