how long did it take you to register?

We are hoping to register at bbb and macys this weekend. It is our last weekend with both of us off before May. We are planning dinner with friends, so I am trying to figure out how early we need to start? About how long did you take at bbb and macys to register?

Re: how long did it take you to register?

  • We registered at BBB and we were there for at least four hours!  It did take a long time but it was so much fun!  Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time since you're planning on doing two registries just so you can have time to look around at each store.
  • I'd start early in the day if you want to do both, but also know that you can manage the registry online. If you don't get to everything, then you can finish online whenever you have time. I actually prefer reading the reviews, so I've been doing lots of it online.
  • We have only done BBB so far. It took us over 3 hours and we didn't even finish it!

  • We only did BBB and are only doing that one and we were shocked when it took between 4 and 5 hours!  We had a blast though and time flew but definitely give yourself time in case you need it, even though we could add things online, it's much better seeing the items in person!  Good luck and have fun!

We registered for some stuff online first.  We ended up registering at 3 stores total, but we did BBB & Macy's on the same day.  Macy's took about 1.5 hours for us, but we were at BBB for probably 2-3 hours!  It was a long day and FI and I were totally ready to be done for the last part of our BBB registry.  If both stores are close or you have enough time, I might do them on separate days.

I know you said you are going out to dinner with friends after, but I can tell you after doing both stores we weren't up for anything more than going home and crashing on the couch!

  • We made a date night out of it and it took I think two and a half hours, it might have taken longer but we weren't looking at small appliances or kitchen utensils because I already have those.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • It depends on what all you are registring for.  If you are making a small registry, I would say give it a couple hours.  If you are making a large one, and don't want to forget anything, go prepared with a detailed list and expect at least 3 or 4 hours.

It took us 2 hours, and we put about 90 things on our registry.
  • We only registered at BBB and we were there for almost 3 hours. It was fun though and we didn't even notice how long it took until we left the store.
  • At BBB, we were probably there for 1.5 hours. At Target, maybe an hour. We did some planning beforehand though. We made a list of everything we wanted (of course, we added/changed some things once in the stores), and did some research online so we had an idea of which store we wanted to use for the different items. Target went faster because it was second place we went to, and just had to get what we didn't register for at BBB.

  • We did BBB and Macys.  BBB took 3-4 hrs.  It would have been a little faster if the lady wasn't pestering us to look at certian things. Macy's was second and took about 2 hours. (I already knew what we needed to look at, and there was no one pestering us to scarn certian things)  Then I took an hr and compared the two online. You will want to give yourself plenty of time depending on how much you think you are going to register for.

  • Oh geeze we registered there and it took us forever. We are both pretty big non-shoppers though so we get sick of it quick. I think between the 2 stores we ended up going 4 or 5 times probably for 2 hours or so each time.

  • Macy's was 2-3 hours. We were at a flagship, 6-storey Macy's. Sur la Table was 1-2 hours. For both, I had a short, disorganized list of things we were looking for, no fine china or flatware, and I'm not brand-conscious. Mostly we registered for what was cheapest of what we needed.

The only time we talked with staff at Macy's was 1) to start the process, 2) when I was lost in the bedding department, and 3) to conclude the process.

At Sur la Table, they'd just renovated, and I couldn't find anything, so we talked to various people throughout that time. My fiance also asked the staff to open up a deep frier for his inspection. And we got hounded about registering for the $30 Rosle garlic press.

I spent over an hour fiddling with both registries later that weekend. My fiance was unusual, I guess, in that he wasn't interested in handling the scanner, so I was carrying the scanner, my list, my pen, and the stores' lists. This made it hard to scan things like pots and pans. Also, the stores don't necessarily display all these things, though they're usually in stock in the back, so I had to add them later.
  • We did three places in one day, and it took ALL day.  My biggest recommendation is to pre-shop.  Head in with a list of silverware, flatware, glasses, bedding, etc that you liked on the website and know you want to look at.
  • My FI wanted nothing to do with registereing.

My Mom and I went price compairing twice before I created any registries online.  Each "pre-registering" trip easily took two hours.

We then registered at a Belk registry party and then went to BBB.  Our BBB consultatnt was very helpful and not pushy, but I had to correct a lot of our information online when we created a registry in-store.

I created a William-Sonoma registry online and it was painless.  I did speak to a registry consultant about recommendations (althought I was pretty sure about what we want/need and what we don't before I spoke to her).  I will have my mom, who is an amazing home, cook double check our registry here shortly.  We just sent out our save the dates.

  • We did BBB as well, neither one of us had been to the store before so we took an hour just looking around and then went back to the front to fill out the paper work and actually register.  This let us think over things and check and recheck.  As stated by others though its nice its on the internet too this last weekend I sat down and revamped ours all on line

  • We did BBB just two days ago and it took us 5 hours to complete it! Then we went to Target the next day and that took a little over 2 hours. Whew! It was sure a lot of fun though!
