secrets maroma beach or excellence resort?

We're planning on going on our HM October 1-9, 2011 but can't decide between the Secrets resort or Excellence resort. Opinions, comments, reviews!? Both have great reviews on tripadvisor and such but how do you choose between them??

    We actually debated btwn the two of these and ended up at Secrets Maroma.  Our travel agent told us it was closer to the airport and also closer to town should we decide to go (we ended up not going into town).

    It was gorgeous!

    I have also heard that the beach at Secrets Maroma is by far the best between the two.

    We stayed at Secrets Maroma form 10/4-10/14 and LOVED it. We were back and forth between the 2, but we heard the service and beach were better at Secrets. We couldn't be happier with our Honeymoon spot!

    I've heard the opposite! That Excellence is better than Secrets Maroma, by a slight margin. I'm sure both resorts are amazing! (I'm going to Excellence Playa Mujeres)

    I have been to Excellence Riviera and we just got back from The Royal Playa Del Carmen and I liked it better than Excellence... havent been to Secrets yet :)

    We HM'd at EPM and LOVED it. The food and service were fantastic and the rooms were incredible. We chose it for the indoor/outdoor jacuzzi tubs in each room and huge balconies, plus the resort has a lazy river.  We thought the beach was great.  The only slight negative we thoguht were the beds were a bit hard.

    We met another couple celebrating their anniversary who had gone to The Royal Playa del Carmen and like pp said, they liked it better (but it was much pricier as well).  Definitely check out tripadvisor.  Both Maroma and Playa Mujeres resorts get great reviews.
