How did you/are you handling the payment of vendors?

Did you bank money in an account & pay when due, or did you pay people off as you had the money?

Right now we have money in an account paying a tiny bit of interest, but I wonder if it's worth the peace of mind to just get people paid. Opinions?

We maintained the schedules put forth by each individual vendor, as they all differed.  Some divided their total payment into equal payments across a time frame.  Others asked for a minimal deposit and remainders due at the end.

Also, in the case of our florist and lighting vendors, we changed our choices in the last month or two, and it was easier to adjust the balance.

I would be cautious in paying vendors "in full" ahead of time.  In a few cases, some vendors tend to "ease up" on their efforts once they have been paid in full.  I in no way mean to insult or offend any vendor, but when money is due someone, they tend to stay more focused and attentive.

We are paying them according to their fee schedule unless they offered us a discount if we paid in full at time of booking, in which case we paid in full. I would rather have the money earning me interest than them.

Depending on the vendor, I made payments.  I have been periodically paying $1000 here and there on my photographer and band so that the final payment isnt so big.  Waiting on decor since the count could change.

we paid off 3 vendors early (DOC, photobooth and dj), I would like to pay off all our set cost vendors (photo/video/trolley) before the actual day so all we have to worry about is the flex cost vendors (reception/linens/florist)

My venue set up a payment plan with a payment due every 3 months or so, final balance due 10 days before our wedding date. I am paid ahead of the payments, but will still make my final payment at the end and not pay the entire balance off early. This is the largest payment obviously so I feel peace of mind getting ahead of schedule with them.

For other vendors we have paid them their required deposits, but the balance is due at the end (either day of, or a week before) so I plan on just keeping the money in our savings account until that time. There's no point to giving them the money now, and among other things, if anything were to "go wrong" whether on our end by changing something, or the vendor's end, such as going out of business, I would rather have my money than worry about trying to get money back from them. Not that that's likely, but I feel better having my money.

When it comes to smaller things like favors, decor, anything under $100 basically, I have been purchasing things here and there so I don't have a bunch of money going out all at once.

We paid everything according to the contracts which were all different. I wish we could have set our own terms to benefit us with interest earned on a savings account but most vendors wanted either 50% or 25% up front. Then some wanted the rest a week before the wedding, and one or two took the balance on the wedding day.
