Too much, just right price? for DJ

I called our first DJ today and he quoted me $1500 for music for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception and small underlighting (?) I think I have no idea what that is, I guess anyother thing for me to research.

This DJ got good reviews from WeddingWire and is local to where I live and our venue which is a plus.

Since this is the first guy we spoke with, I don't know a thing about the cost of a DJ, so is this price a deal or too much?

I think for what your are getting that is a good price.  But call others and check what they have to offer. So maybe you can negotiate.

Sounds like a good price to me, but as always shop around a little before booking. I like your ticker!

That sounds like a good price.. our DJ is $1395 and the lighting package we got was $320.. so our total package is $1715 and we get cocktail hour, 4 hour reception, and two person team..plus the lighting.  We had looked at some other DJs who were more expensive than this.. who is the company you are referring to?

and an FYI - DJs service cannot be taxed.. so if a DJ tries to charge you tax, or tells you if you sign a contract right now, he'll waive the tax, he is lying. They cannot charge tax on DJ service! I just recently found this out... and I would make sure to select a company that allows you to meet the MC before signing a contract and includes their name on the contract. Good luck!

Sounds like they're in the right ballpark, but it's always worth talking to multiple suppliers (no matter what the service) if for no other reason that it positions you to make a more educated decision.

That sounds about right.  My dj is charging the same amount for about the same type of package.

I would like to know the company too! We have met with one DJ so far and they quoted us a little more for the same stuff but instead of lighting we would be getting 2 TV's and a photo montage. Since we are having an afternoon wedding they told us it's not worth getting thel lighting.
