Incorporating his Marine Corps service into the wedding...

Hey ladies! I'm getting married this coming May to a Marine that JUST finished up his enlistment a few months ago. He is not wearing his dress blues and there aren't any groomsmen that are also Marines.  However, we will have some guests that are also Marines.  We can't do the cake cutting with the sword, or the sword arch, etc...We were thinking about having a signature cocktail and naming it the "OORAH!". But this is all we can think of at the moment...

What are some ways we can incorporate his Marine lifestyle into the ceremony and/or reception to pay homage to his service and show our guests more about us as a couple (since obviously the MC has played a huge role in our relationship)? I'm looking for unique ideas, no matter how small or big! Thanks! :)

  • How about a grooms cake?

  • Or something with the favors? Stickers with the insignia?

  • Instead of an altar I had an anti-aircraft gun covered in flowers.

    Not normal? I see.

  • Stan, you're such a show off and one upper ;)

  • I mentioned this in a different post, but maybe you can use EGA charms in your bouquet or table decorations.  You could do a groom's cake.  You could have a MC garter.  Is there a certain song they used for moto before missions?  You could have it played at a certain point and dedicate it to him and his guys.  I did that for my H at our afterparty and they all went nuts.

  • I have a MC garter and on our invites I took a picture of my bouquet our rings and a marine corps pin on the train of my dress and used that as our invitation with.text over it. They are gorgeous and personalized! Were thinking of a grooms cake as well.
  • I was thinking of asking the same question because my FI is in the army.  I believe as our favors we are donating to the wounded warrior in each of our guests names and probably adding in something else but i'm not sure either :/
  • I think a garter is always a cute and personal way to include a detail like this in a wedding without making it over-the-top.  Naming tables something related is also an idea - perhaps bases?  Though I personally would prefer to name tables for something we have in common, you could say the bases might be personal as you both might live at any of them in the future.  A groom's cake is another fun way to include the idea.  If there's a flag pole, you could ask to have the USMC flag hanging next to the American flag (always lower than the American), which is one thing we're doing at our venue.  You can also buy cufflinks that are the EGA (eagle globe & anchor - the Marine Corps logo) which he can wear with his tux/suit.  Similarly, there are tie clips with the EGA that might be a nice touch (just don't use the service alphas uniform's tie clip, as you can't wear uniform components outside of uniform dress - it breaks regulations).

  • My FI is in the Army Reserves (12 years) He will not being wearing his class A`s and we also have a groomsmen in the Army who will not be wearing his either. SO What I decided to do was incorporate a few small things of the Army. We are having the table for the "soldier who didnt come home" at our reception. We are having 2 cakes, one being the grooms cake and one of the tiers on the cake will be of the Army. Our cake cutting utinsils will have ribion in the color of the Army and my Garter will be the same. I think my FI is going to talk to his unit and see if we can borrow a tank and use that as our transportation. Its not a lot, but its enough to incorporate it, because it is such a huge part of our lives. Hope this gave you a few ideas
