A good problem to have...

I was chatting with my aunt this weekend, and we were talking about wedding plans. She's taken a bunch of floral arrangement classes, so she excitedly asked me about flowers and I told her I was just going to throw a few DIY bouquets together a few days before and not really have any other flowers. I never (even before I was engaged) gave much thought to flowers, as I just wanted to spend my money on other things. Well, my aunt about had a heart attack when I told her this, and she said she would love to pay for all of my floral arrangements from a florist (her and her husband are both CPA's and have no kids... so I don't feel as though this would burden her). She said to make an appointment and we would go together and make a day of it.

Well, the problem is, I have NEVER paid attention to any of the vendor reviews on flowers on TK.  I am now slightly panicking because I don't know where to start, just a little over 3 months out. Will it be hard to book a florist this far out? I've heard so many horror stories about flowers showing up wrong...
Can anyone recommend a florist? TBH, I don't even know what my budget is....

OH guys I need your help. TIA!

  • Haha, that's awesome!

We used Out of the Garden.

Does your coordinator give you vendor recs?  You might ask her once you know your budget and she might be able to get you a deal.

  • Wow!  Congratulations!

I got my flowers from Market Street in Colleyville and I had a wonderful experience.  Bill buys me flowers from Central Market sometimes and I know that a few girls here have had good experiences there as well.  I also like Bice's and McShan's.
  • I used City Florist in Grapevine. Margaret, who does the weddings there, is my mom's best friend and she's fantastic!
  • I used A Man and A Woman in Dallas. I thought they did a fantastic job! :-)

It's actually not that bad that you have waited because now you have a clear vision for your wedding and it will be easy to consult with a florist knowing exactly what you want.  When you book 6 months out like I did, you change your mind a million times anyway.

I loved my florist Tami Winn with Lefleur Couture.  She was so much fun to work with.  Just by looking at their work, I also love DiFiori and Garden Gate.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys!

This might be a VERY ignorant question... but wouldn't all florists be pretty much the same? I know creativity differs, but ultimately how different can they be? I just don't know how to differentiate...

That's probably the biggest thing.  While you may not have anything in mind for flowers, some florists may just not have any clue how to tie in their design with your vision. I met with two florists, and one of them seemed a) uppity and b) way too "cool" for my tastes.  Their prices definitely reflected how important they felt.

  • I agree with Amanda.  Alot of it is just finding someone you click with.  The first florist I met with, I was very uncomfortable.  She was downright snooty (this was a high-end florist I might add).  I liked the second florist but was still unsure.  So I met with Tami and immediately she knew exactly what my vision was and how she could make it better.  We just "clicked" and that was when I knew I had found my florist.  But flowers and choosing a florist was also very important to me.

I will also add that I had researched everyone I met with beforehand and knew they had good reviews and a good reputation.  Definitely choose someone from this board that has been happy with their florist.
  • Well I (and at least 2 other Knotties/Nesties) can tell you who NOT to use.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Yes please!! Like I said, I completely blocked out anyone's mention of florists in the area, and I am starting from square one.

Most of us would strongly advise against Lily Pad florists, a few of us have had less than stellar all the way to awful experiences.
