Photographer is MIA!?!

Please help, I'm trying not to panic.

My photographer's website is down (the domain expired last week - I checked). She hasn't posted anything new on her blog (which is also down) since mine and FI's e-session in April. There's nothing new on her FB page since May. I know it's a busy time of year for wedding photogs, but how can you not realize your site is down?! Then I found a couple of bad reviews online (well, only one, but it's ALL OVER THE PLACE), saying that she didn't show up for someone's e-session late this spring and didn't return emails or calls. I am panicking that something is WRONG.

I called her just now to let her know about the site/ask about the review - and it went straight to her voicemail. However, I did email her about 10 days ago with some info from our church and a couple of questions, and she replied right away, which is good, right? For us, she's always been highly responsive and on-time (early, actually) for every meeting. She's been a pleasure to work with, so far...

She's working on her own and doesn't have the resources of a big company behind her. She also has three young kids, and any number of things could be going on in her personal life. Maybe she's simply on vation right now? My fiance insists everything is fine. I just can't believe that you would own your own business and not know something as critical as your site isn't working!

GAHHHHH! Thanks for letting me vent. Hopefully she'll call back to explain, and my pessimism and panic will pass.

  • Fingers crossed! If she's normally been pretty responsive, including as recently as ten days ago, then I'd think you should be okay.

  • I would totally freak out too!  But my FI would also insist everything was ok, so I guess that's the way the world works.  If she has been getting back to you I would try not to worry about it.  Maybe try to call her again another time and see if her phone is on or send an email just to check in and see if she gets back to you promptly.

  • Wow!!! I would freak out too. Fingers and toes crossed thing work out and she turns up!!

  • Eek!! I'd be worried, too! But since she's been good so far, try not to freak out too much yet (I know, easier said than done!!). I would wait for the call back and if you haven't heard from her by tomorrow, try sending her an email since she replied quite quickly to the last one. I would actually probably not be able to wait and do that immediately, but I do have a tendency to freak out a bit.... :) It'll all work out!!

  • Thanks. Still trying to remain calm. If I don't hear back in a day or so, I'll call again before I email her.

    The thing that has me most concerned is that her site is down - not down for maintenance, but down because the domain expired a week and a half ago. How can one let such an important part of their business fall by the wayside? Second, I'm still very concerned about that one bad review, saying she didn't show up for a client's e-session. I'm really hoping - since it's just one - that it's a fluke (perhaps someone was just mean and tried to take away business?)

    I'm wondering if I should ask my friend-of-a-friend who just started a photography company to be on standby? She's quite good... Maybe I'll give it a few more days.
