Name Change

Hello Knotties,
I was married on September 15 and have yet to officially change my name.  I will be taking my husbands last name.  I am considering taking my maiden name as my middle name.  However when recently discussing this with a friend that did the same 4 years ago, the SS administration let her do that with her official SS info, however the BMV required an official legal name change with the courts and would not change her DL to reflect First Name, Maiden Name, Last Name.  So her ID and banking info still has her maiden name as her last name.

With that being said if I have to do an offical legal name change with the courts, I'm not going to.  So I was considering taking my maiden name only for my professional work related items, business card, name plate, emails, etc. 

Has anyone did this?  What are your recommendations?

    First of all - most employers require you use your legal name to avoid conflicts with payroll, taxation, etc... so you can't legally change your name and then not give them that information.

    Check with your DMV (preferably a manager) before you make any changes to find out what their policies are.

    I also kept my maiden name but all our friends and family call me MrsHisLastName

    Your marriage certificate and new SS card should be enough proof of name change for the DMV. That IS a legal way to change your name without going through the courts. I think your friend misunderstood and you need to double check. There's no way everyone in OH with their married name on their DL has gone through the courts to change their name.
