Are there any caterers who charge less for children??

My fiance and I are planning a 2012 wedding, which my parents are generously paying for, but my parents are a little upset that my fiance wants to invite all of his relatives' children. I am not sure how many to be exact, but they are concerned about paying $30+ per head, especially if these children are young. I am just throwing out a number, but I'm thinking there would be at least 20 children on his side.

I am caught in the middle here b/c I understand why my fiance would want his younger relatives, but he is also not paying for it. I think it is also rude to write ''no children'' on invitations.

We are going to start looking at venues soon; however, I was wondering if anyone knows if they charge less for children under a certain age or what not. So far, I haven't seen anything like that listed on the venues' webpages, so that is discouraging.

I was really happy about all of this wedding planning until now. I am seriously ready to make this a very small wedding (50 or less) or elope.

Don't stress, I think MOST caterers charge much less for "kids meals". Our caterer actually threw ours in for free, but I believe it was only $6.95 for their kids meals usually (I'm using Levan's) We decided to allow parents to bring kids, but we are having a babysitter & a "kids room". At the Lake Mary Events Center there is a big meeting room next to the main ballroom with a huge projector where we will show movies for the kids. That way they can come in & out of the reception as parents see fit, and parents don't have to worry about keeping an eye on them or leaving early because the kids get bored. Just an option ;) Good luck, you can do it!

Well, that's a relief! A lot of the caterer's websites dont specify this; of course, I emailed them and awaiting their responses.

I've seen a few that charge half for kids under 10 or 12 for buffets. Most will also make kids plated meals for significantly less.

I used Arthur's Catering. We didn't have a "kids" plate because we had a buffett but they did charge a lot less for children. 0 to 3 was Free, and 3 to 12 was $30 compared to $60 for adults.

I agree about caterers charging less for kids. I have a ton of young relatives and in order to keep costs down they were cut from the list. My wedding is 21+ haha. For my invitations, on the inner envleope I just wrote specifically who was invited. Like Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith. and had separate invitations for adult children living at home. My aunt called my mom and said I see that the kids arent invited and my mom said yes they aren't, but we can recommend babysitters if you need to bring them into town. And that was that!

I had the same concern because FI's cousins have small children, and since they are making vacations out of coming.

We have a kids plate option, and will be offering someone to help keep the kids entertained for the night.

Thanks everyone. that makes me feel better. i am not sure the actual ages yet of my FI's younger family members b/c most of them are out of town. He may not actually know them personally since a lot of them are probably really young. They live in texas and indiana, and we are in central fl. so this is why i was a little upset with spending $$$$ on all of these children that we aren't close to. besides a lot of kids are picky and waste food, no offense, but it stinks when you have to pay for it.

anyway, it's reassuring to know that caterers will offer other pricing for the little ones ;)

Most caterers have children's menus that are less expensive for children under twelve.  Call around and ask.

Also, not to be downer, but most of our guests with children (who live out of town) aren't coming because of the expense and hassle of traveling w/ little ones. This was relatives and friends. You may not be paying for as many meals as you think- BUT my caterer is only charging 6.95 for kid friendly meals (Levan's) so no worries! :)

My caterer charges around $8 for a kids plate (chicken nuggets and mac and cheese) and around $15 (half price) for older kids who want to eat  the adult meal.  I'm sure most caterers offer a child's option, even if they don't list it in their pricing info on their website.
