Cake & Dessert

are you ladies planning to have a seperate dessert, other than you wedding cake? when are you planning to cut and serve your cakes and/or desserts? FI really wants to do a seperate dessert, but i really think it is unnecessary.

My caterer suggested after we do our grand enterence, cutting the cake for all to see, then the caterers can cut it during the meal to be served as dessert. however, I have always been to weddings where the cake is cut and served about an hour or so after dinner.

sweet things have my head spinning!

I would check with your venue....we are cutting the cake before dinner because then we are not charged a cake cutting fee (which at some venues was up to $1.25 a slice).  That way when dinner is done the cake will be served as dessert in our case.

We cut ours after the grand entrance so the cake could get cut during dinner and served as dessert.  We had cookie trays put out about 9pm for some munching later on (didn't want to do full-blown later night apps).  Our venue and caterer let us bring the trays in (we got them at Metro Market in Brookfield - reasonably priced, nice variety, and only needed 48 hour advance for the order).

We cut ours after dinner and had a cake station later... but either option is OK.

We served cookies, wings, and meatballs as a late-night snack near 10 PM at our wedding.  So I guess we had another dessert.

We are having a chocolate river as well as cake. I haven't thought too much about when to cut the cake, but I like the idea of having it cut later and using a station to serve it. That way people who don't want cake don't get served, and you may have more leftovers Wink

is you caterer zilli's? I see your venue is the war memorial, which is ours as well! If not zilli's, how is doing your chocolate river?

I love the late night snack idea!  We're having pizza at 10.
We'll also be cutting the cake before dinner and having it served after the meal as dessert.  That way it gets eaten and not wasted.
