Shoes for beach wedding ceremony?! Help!

I'm having my wedding on the beach next september. My mom and I are completely stumped as to what to do about my bridesmaids shoes. I don't have their dresses yet, but I'm thinking chiffon, either short or long, which to me seems very dressy. I don't want them in flip flops (too formal, and they'll kick sand up their dresses) and obviously heels are out of the question. They don't want flats because they'll get a ton of sand in them. I was thinking barefoot, but I don't know if I'll like the way it looks in pictures or not (anyone done this? How did it look?). My MOH suggested gladiator style sandals, to prevent them from kicking up sand but so they'll still have something on their feet, but I worry about how it will look with the type of dress I'd like for them.

I found barefoot sandals, which I'll probably buy for myself for the ceremony and switch into my low heels for the reception at a golf club, but I don't want my girls to have to buy two pair of shoes.

Any ideas????

  • I think the best way for people to help with ideas would be for you to post an example of the dress style you want for your girls.

I would suggest wedges, but those can also be really awkward to walk on in sand.

  • you could do something like this:

    or these

anything with a wedge might work, the girls wont sink in the sand with a small wedge compared to a high heell...hope this helps!

  • Why not let your girls pick their own shoes? Maybe say 'no flip-flops' or something, but you want them to be comfortable, right? A lot of gladiator sandals aren't very comfy to wear (I have one pair I like, but two others I bought and never really wore because they didn't feel good, so I had to get rid of them).

Haven't decided short or long yet which I'm sure doesn't help =/

cmp, the touch ups aren't so bad. I don't think my girls get that they aren't gonna be shleppin' down the aisle as though they're going down to the water to tan. I think if they just walk nice and slow, they'll have more options.

Allie, gladiators was actually THIER idea! I'm not completely opposed to it, just don't know how it would look with the above type dresses. I definitely want their shoes to be uniform though. At least the same general style.
  • I'm getting married in Maui on the beach in October. We are planning to go barefoot, but just in case I bought these cute flip flops to wear if the sand is too hot: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60257479/so-sweet-bride-hydrangea-with-crystal

They are more "bridal" looking ones that are white with colored ribbon, I just liked the brown with colored ribbon for me.

Heels will not work in the sand, wedges will be uncomfortable but better. Barefoot or sandals really would be the best bet.
  • I don't like the barefoot idea...or flip flops, this is a wedding, not a day at the beach! I think you can find a 1/2 or 1 inch wedge sandal that can be easy to walk in, but also will go with the dresses. And like you said, they are going to be walking slowly down the aisle, not "shleppin' down"

I am doing similar dresses, I love the light and airy-ness of the chiffon.

  • I refuse to wear shoes on the beach...ever so I would just opt for no shoes. It is the beach after all.

  • No shoes for sure!

  • I'm getting married on the beach in October and we are all going to be barefoot. We have shoes to wear for the reception on solid ground, but shoes and sand just don't mix in my opinion :)

  • I just stumbled upon these shoes too (if you are still thinking that you want the bridesmaids to wear shoes) http://www.zappos.com/annie-sunup-silver

  • First off, LOVE your dresses, especially the first one.

Second, I don't think that having a beach wedding really SCREAMS super formal if you are doing it in the sand.  That being said, I could completely understand wanting formal shoes for the girls at the reception, but in the sand I honestly believe that barefoot or some sort of flat sandal would be best.  There are actually some flip flops with some bling on them that look a little nicer if need be.

  • Thank you all for your support and help =) I may have them go barefoot and get mani/pedis. I guess it also depends on what the guys end up doing. For them, their only options are barefoot or dress shoes!

<div>What are the guys wearing? If it's tuxes, they'll need to be in dress shoes, but otherwise I'd let them go barefoot too.</div>

  • Ivory tuxes, but I don't mind making them wear dress shoes. For some reason I doubt it would be as big of an issue as the girls in flats
  • this may go along with your bridesmaids suggestion, but i just bought myself a pair  of steve madden sandals to were for my wedding.  they're called "bride" and they also have one's called "groom"  but they are super cute and could def be used for a beach wedding.
