Photographer etiquette question

I have a friend who is interning at an amazing photography studio in our town so my fiance and I had her take our engagement pictures. We just got them back but out of 55 pictures, we only like 9. I don't think we are going to use her for our wedding but I don't know how to tell her. Any ideas?

Who took the photos?  The intern or someone else at the studio?  What's wrong with the other 46 images?

It's always hard to tell your friend you want to hire someone else but you only get married once (well, hopefully). As a photographer I hear all kinds of horror stories (not to mention have one of my own from my wedding photographer)  and although it's not fun to tell you friend someone else is going to take your wedding shots it doesn't mean she or he still can't shoot also.

When I started my business, republicoflove.org for wedding photography it was a policy of mine to not shoot friends or family because the photo's just mean too much. Naturally as time went on and I became more confident in my ability I agreed to shoot for people I have personal relationships with. Your friend should want you to be happy and comfortable on your big day and if he or she is much of a friend at all then hiring a professional and asking them to still come and shoot to "build their book" wouldn't be offensive. Priority #1 is what you and your husband want on your big day.

    Good luck and congratulations!

Eeek! What don't you like about them? It's always hard breaking up with a vendor . . .

They are a photographer, so you can just say that your vision/eye doesn't really match up. Its not a quality issue just a art personality issue?
