Day of Wedding timeline!

How early do brides typically get their hair/make-up done?

My ceremony is at 7.  We are doing photos before, probably around 5 o'clock.

Re: Day of Wedding timeline!

  • I arrived at my salon 2.5 hours before my photographer showed up and I had JUST enough time. So I would say at least 3 or 3.5 hours before photo time.

  • Okay, thanks!! :)
  • My ceremony was at 7 with a first look scheduled for 4:30 and photos at 5:00.  I started hair/makeup at 2:00 and wasn't finished until 4 and still had to get dressed.  I was very rushed and didn't get to the first look until 4:45.  Looking back, I wish I had allowed maybe 30 extra minutes.

  • Oh goodness. I should definitely plan on doing it all early.  I hate being rushed as it is, that would make me have so much anxiety! Thanks!
  • I'm DIYing my makeup but having my hair done professionally.  My first look is at 2:45pm, so I'm having my hair done at noon (10 minutes from venue) and doing makeup at the hotel I'm staying at the night before the wedding, and I'll probably start makeup at like 10am or so, so that I can leave the hotel and get to my hair appointment by noon.

  • If you have a hair/makeup trial, that should be able to tell you how long it will take. I had my hair trial today, and it took her under 45 minutes to do my hair. My appt is a 11:30, and then I am going home (less than 5 minutes away) to do my makeup, my sisters makeup, and our daughters hair for first look pics by 3:30.

I was told 1.5 hours to do my hair and makeup, there will be 2 people working on me at the same time. I hope they keep that promise because I only have 30 after I'm done to get my dress on. The salon is in my resort and my ceremony is outside my resort.

  • My wedding was at 2pm. My hair stylist and make up artist arrived at my house around 8am. My bridesmaids, my mom and myself had our hair and make up done at my house. My photographer arrived at 11:30 and was able to take all the photos of my parents and I while the rest of my girls finished getting ready. It worked out pretty well for us because by time all my girls were ready, we were set to start taking pictures of the bridal party. After all the photos were finished was right when the limo arrived. We were pretty much on schedule to the second the whole morning. I do think I would have liked to start my day about a half hour earlier. I did not feel rushed or feel that we were running low on time, but we did get lucky with being exactly on time. If something would have come up that would have made us get off schedule even the slightest bit, we would have been late for the ceremony.

Yeah, but it's totally different on the day of.  For one thing, you want it perfect of course and invariably there are also a million interruptions, people and vendors are arriving, etc.

My advice:  plan more time than you think you will need..

My ceremony is at 2:30 and my hair appt is at 8 with make up being at 9. I was a little worried that was too early. I have very fine/thin hair and am worried about my makeup lasting the whole night. Do you think that would be a problem?
  • I have very fine hair too and was worried about the same thing.  My hairstylist assured me it would be fine and she would "Spray the heck out of it"
