Empty Calories

So I've been sick over the past few days with the flu, made it really hard to keep up with MFP on enough calories. Of course being sick is an exception to what I'm about to ask, but if you have days where you don't eat enough calories do you just eat something with enough calories to keep you from dipping below where you should be? I know that eating too few calories doesn't help the weight loss process which is why I'm asking this.

Yup. Still not "empty" calories though.

Foods like peanut butter, nuts and cheese are high in calories but also have healthy aspects to them (like protein, nuts and PB have good fats & protein)... Some ladies grab a spoonful of PB when they need to up their cals to meet minimum.

Edit: It's not going to be a big deal though if you dip below 1200 once in a while, your body won't go into starvation mode immediately. Just don't make it a habit :)

Being under your recommended calories once in awhile is totally fine, same as going above them once in awhile is totally fine.  I think eating for the sake of eating is worse than being a few hundred cals short of your target, and not a good habit to get into.  I'm a firm believer in listening to your body.  If you're hungry, eat.  If not, don't.  I ended up 30+ lbs overweight due to eating when I wasn't hungry, so I reallllly try not to do that now.  Of course, there are tons of days when I go over my calories, so it all averages out in the end.  Weight loss is a loooong journey, it's a matter of eating an appropriate amount of calories over time.  One day fluctuations are nothing to worry about.
  • Very good thoughts on all accounts. Thank you!
