Cheap Wedding Cake?

Hello again - does anyone have a recommendation for a place in the North Olmsted/Westlake area to get a cheap wedding cake? We're not thinking of doing anything big and fancy - probaby three tiers max...

What do you consider cheap? Create-A-Cake, Inc. in Lakewood does tasty cakes in any design you want, and IIRC their per slice price is around $2. Worth checking out! We went with Breads and Beyond (in Parma) -- yummy basic cake for $1.85/slice now.

I don't have an exact budget, I just know CHEAP. lol So, basically as cheap as possible, and both of those places sound great. Thanks!

I don't know if you have the grocery store Acme up your way, but that is where we got ours. It is $2.75/slice and that includes a filling of some sort for each layer.

We originally wanted cheap as well but we fell in love with the cake from Becker's Bakery in Fairview Park.  It's $3.50 a slice--but so worth it.

We had a large wedding (300+), and got a layer cake to feed 100 people, and two sheet cakes for the rest!  Both our caterer AND Sue Becker suggested this.   When we averaged the costs together,  it came out under $2.5 a slice/per person.

i also know cheap, and create a cake wasnt one of them. they quoted us 721$ for a three tier square for 125 people.

Anyway, we decided on michaelangelo bakery in broadview hts.  Three tier square with specialty filling and three different flavors, gum paste tiger lillies, and delivery = $350. Great tasting cake, and Matt is super nice to work with. Check em out!

Tapps Cake Emporium on Broadview road!!

They are a hidden gem and not super expensive..

We will be doing the chocolate cake filled w/ chocolate ganache and raspberry filling. So delicious!  They also have cake samples every saturday - just call ahead if you want to see what flavors. The cake was the most moist and yummy I have tried. Oh and try the whipped cream frosting it is heavenly!!

Yeah, we had the same experience with Create A Cake--pretty pricey, in our opinion, and the cake wasn't so good. We ended up going with Mainstreet Cupcakes in Rocky River, if you're open to cupcakes. They have hundreds of flavors, either with filling or without, is basically how the prices vary. Just going basic, they average like $2 per cupcake, a bit more for the filled kind. It's cheaper than what we were quoted for a cake at Giant Eagle! And they are to die for.

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I actually just started a local business in Strongsville that does Cake Balls and Cake Ball Pops-we have over 50 flavors, and we can custom decorate and package them. Some people like them for favors, some brides use them for the dessert table, others use them in a "cupcake cake" to add some fun to it. You could always do an adorable small cake, and then do cake balls, or even set up a "cake ball bar" and have a small box (which can even be personalized) for guests to pick the flavor(s) they want (this could double as the cake AND favor). We typically sell our cake balls for $15-$16.50 per dozen ($1.25-$1.50 each), and the pops (on a stick) are an additional $3/doz. We offer discounts on orders of 8 dozen or more. We even have little bride and groom decorated cake balls, pops, and strawberries. Just a few ideas. We can do a lot to work with a budget or what the couple wants. We would be more than happy to set up a meeting if you wanted to sample some or have questions. Visit our site at: www.TheCuteLittleCakeShop.com. Hope it's something that interests you! Thanks!

I would definitely second the recommendation for About the Cake.  Becky Rink, who owns it, is in my cake club and she is WILDLY talented.  She goes all over the country demo-ing her skills, and those of us who belong to the cake community really respect her work.  You can't go wrong going with Becky at About the Cake.

My FI and I just ordered our cake from Giant Eagle yesterday. Cake isn't that important to us.  We're mainly getting it for the photo op. Plus in my opinion, it kind of goes to waste. By the time the site cuts the cake for guests most have made their way to bar, outside or are just mingling. I know the past couple of weddings I've gone to I've usually just grabbed cake on the way out the door and either ate it in the car bc I was so hungry from having a great time all night or I ended up leaving it in the car and forgetting about it until a week later. lol.

So we got a 2-Tier Cake and 2 sheet cakes to feed around 180 people. The decorator told me to let her know how I would like it decoratored and she'd even make the sheet cakes look "similiar" to the cake everyone else will see. The total cost for the cakes and delivery was $300.25. Not bad... we were both happy.
