Feeding Vendors....

I was just reading (under 30 Expert Tips & Tricks) about making sure you don't have to feed your crew the same food you're feeding your guests (to cut costs).

I have never been involved in planning another's wedding (and this is my first and only), but I never heard of this.  Is this a MUST? Expected? Normal? Just a nice gesture?

Re: Feeding Vendors....

  • Check your contracts. A lot of vendors will require a meal, especially if they're working all day like your photographer. Just talk to your caterer about vendor meals. It's usually something like a sandwich and chips, not the same thing you feed your guests.
  • Your photographer needs to be fed.  In most cases they are working a good 8-10 hour day.  I assume you eat during your work day?  Do you really want your photographer to 'run out' for some food and maybe missing something?

A hungry photographer is not really a good photographer.

DJ and/or band members should also be fed.  When you include setup and breakdown they also can work 6-8 hours.

Florists, servers, bartenders are not included in the list as they are taken care of by their employer.

check  you contracts, a lot of contracts require you provide a meal.  Some even go as far as to say you have to feed them the same as the guests.

We fed our vendors the same meal as the guests.  It never occurred to me not to feed them.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Our venue provides a meal to the vendors at a discounted rate, not the usual guest rate.  Check with your venue.
  • As pp said, check your contracts. My photographer has a provision in her contract requiring a 15 minute break and a meal.
