order of bridal party procession

I have a question regarding the order the bridal party enters the church (and also reception). Is it in order of who is closest to the bride/groom? We have some family and some friends in our bridal party, and I wasn't sure if it mattered the order.

Thanks!

Re: order of bridal party procession

  • I think the order of BMs is up to you, but generally the MOH enters last of all the BMs, i.e., closest to the bride's entrance. I know some people order their BMs based on closeness or even height, but I would never mention the closeness factor to any of them if you choose to go with that method.

  • We did not put our bridal party in any particular order.

The MoH and Best Man are the ones who stand closest to the Bride and Groom, therefore enter the room last (right before the bride, unless you have a flower girl, who goes immediately before the bride).  Beyond that, you can line up your bridesmaids and groomsmen any way you want.  We're actually having my fiance's brother and sister come out first, resulting in them being the fartherst from each of us at the altar.

My fiance is walking out at the same time as the minister, as the processional song begins, and then a bridesmaid and groomsman is walking up each aisle (it's a two aisle church) at the same time.  We thought it'd be nice to have his brother and sister walk up at the same time, having all of them up there together, with no one else, for a minute.

It's pretty flexible and can be done how you want it, really.  Good luck!

  • There aren't any real rules but M did them in order of height.

4 BMs followed by 2 MOHs, the FG last.

    seemed to work out okay.

Holy crap, that was quick! I really thought you'd just be starting out with classes. That must be a relief. Any plans for the 2 month break?

Eh, the dissertation goes. At this point it's less about when I <em>plan</em> to finish and more about when I <em>will </em>finish, so let's just say hopefully this fall? Thanks for asking though. :)

<div>Well, I am getting married 2 days after classes finish! Then we are going on our honeymoon. After that, not too much. I had originally intended to choose a dissertation topic and start some lit reviews, but I am feeling less motivated to do that as it gets closer. And I am at a semester school, and we only have to do first session (of 2) of summer classes. So they started in mid-May and go through the end of June. </div><div>
</div><div>I hope you finish this fall! It will probably feel great to finish. I can only imagine...</div>

  • Ok one more question then about order of bridal party. I don't have a flower girl, but I do have a ring bearer. We also have 2 junior bridesmaids and 1 jr groomsmen. Where do they fit in?

:) It will all be over before you know it. I think getting married and honeymooning is a wonderful way to spend the summer! Perhaps shifting focus away from school for awhile might allow some inspirational topic ideas to float into your head, so who knows? Good luck with that. Enjoy the summer and happy wedding day!

And sorry for the detour of the thread, OP. Carry on please. :)

  • I actually did mine in order of how long I've known them. my sister was my matron of honor, baby sister maid of honor, then high school best friend, then college best friend, then new SIL.

  • I've provided music for many weddings & generally I've seen:

    seating of grandparents
seating of mothers (lighting of candle, if you're having them)
minister/officiant enters (usually from front/side of church, rather than down aisle)
Groom & groomsmen enter (following officiant)
processional starts: junior bridesmaids, bridesmaids, MOH
Aisle runner pulled down (usually by ushers)
    Flower girl & ring bearer/s
    YOU (& daddy/mommy whomever)

this is VERY open to interpretation though & lots of people personalize the processional entirely to their own needs

And, as mentioned before, sometimes 'closeness' to bride/groom is used to place party members in order, I've seen some use height, for photography reasons.

Remember, it's ultimately up to you.  If you're having a planner/coordinator at the site they should also offer lots of ideas and even the minister/officiant will have suggestions, if you're in need of last minute help. You could probably even contact the officiant now, asking if they have particular ideas or suggestions, to alleive your worries now.

    Good luck!!! :)
