Random Question- "pre-wedding beautifying schedule"..

So I was reading a wedding magazine, and they had a "90 days before your wedding, start your pre-wedding beauty rituals"...

So, I'm pretty much at 90 days and I'm like huh? beauty rituals? LOL!

Did you ladies do anytype of prepration for the big day, that might be considered a "beauty ritual"? I was thinking that I was going to start tanning soon, get regular hair cuts and maybe more frequent manicures..

I'm more than 90 days out and this isn't specifically for the wedding but I've been taking a lot better care of my skin. I have the Clairisonic Mia so I use that every night. I started using some wrinkle cream around my eyes - I squint a lot because I need glasses but don't wear them, so I'm worried I'll get wrinkles! I also used to have acne which has left faint scarring on my cheeks so I've been using something to fade them. I'm also going to go for a few facials before the wedding as well.

  • I definitely started taking care of my nails about 6 months before. My nails grow REALLY slowly, so I knew I had to start early.  I did also go for several facials, but made sure not to do one within about 4-5 weeks before the wedding just in case I broke out after the last facial.

I also found that as things got closer, life got really busy and it was stressful dealing with all the last minute things that popped up.  I made sure to get enough sleep, drink enough water and take my vitamins and supplements.  Not enough sleep equals getting sick for me, so I was very careful to watch out for that.

  • I'm so glad you brought this up rswan! I was thinking the exact same thing this weekend. I've been getting regular manicures - about every 2 weeks. I find that it's a relatively inexpensive way to pamper myself AND make my nails healthier...it's only 12 bucks :) My nails grow very slow, too. The manicures have definitely been helping....last time I was there, the manicurist said that my cuticles and nail beds are looking good. I think it's the first time I've ever heard that!

I also have the Clarisonic and I LOVE it! I've been looking into getting a few facials before the big day....I'm curious, for those of you who get facials regularly, what kind of facial do you get? (I've never had one)

I've also been getting regular trims on my hair to make sure it continues to grow and stay healthy...I want to keep it long for the wedding. And I plan on getting my eyebrows shaped as the big day approaches. I typically do my own eyebrows but I don't think I do a very good job (just good enough to get by!) and I have been too cheap to spend the money on professional brow shaping/waxing. I'm currently trying to grow mine out so I can start to get them shaped and groomed on a regular basis. I guess now would be a good time to spend the money on professional brow shaping

  • I found this new facial peel and I love it!!!  Most salons that use Aveda products offer this peel.  It is called the Aveda Perfecting Plant Peel.  You can have the peel done alone or you can add it onto a facial.  I got one done 5 weeks before my wedding and again 1 week before.  It has all the benefits of a 30% glycolic peel, but without all the redness.  My skin is super sensitive and it worked great on my skin.  It helps to clarify, improve texture and tone and it reduces pore size, which is great if you are getting air brush make-up!   I highly recommend this peel if you want smooth radiant skin.

Other than that, I have been getting my nails done every 5 weeks, I have gel nails so I get them filled every 5 weeks.  I will get an airbrush tan and eyerows threaded 3 days before.  I have been doing teeth whitening for a few weeks before.  I think that's it!  Just make sure that 6 months leading up to the wedding you take really good care of your skin!  Dont go to bed without washing your face and make sure to moisturize everyday!

    Hope this helps!

  • I would recommend hydrating facials - unless you have severe acne, the ones that pop your zits out painfully actually can do more damage than help!  A good facial should never hurt.  Most of us aren't old enough to really need a chemical peel, so stick to hydrating and clarifying facials to cleanse and freshen your skin.

I can't really afford anything, and I'm still 8 months out, so I'm trying to take good care of my skin and nails, but nothing special.

Hey Calindi!  Hope your planning is going well!  Just curious as to what you mean by this?  My esthetician and make-up artist both recommend the glycolic (or similar) peels for people in their 20's and up who want their skin looking radiant for a special event.  The main reason is that the peel smooths the skin and reduces pore size so the make-up goes on flawlessly. I have found that they actually arent that expensive either!  The Perfecting Plant Peel was $37 at the spa near me in Groton. I would definitely do a trial run a month or so before your wedding to see how your skin reacts, but even with my highly sensitive skin it worked wonderfully with no irritation. :)

  • estegman, what spa did you go to in Groton? Elizabeth Arden?

<div>Good to know! After I saw your post about the peel, I started googling it so I could find a spa near me that offered it. I only found one, and it was over $100 (I guess it was combined with a facial, but still...a high price for a first-timer like me!) I would also be interested in hearing which spa you used in Groton.....it's definitely not in my neighborhood, but worth the drive if it'll save me $$!</div>

  • It's at a spa in Groton called HOME Spa. http://www.home-wellnesscenter.com/ They use Aveda products and have great prices on spa services. It looks like they may have recently increased the price for the peel to $45, but it's still much less than what red door charges. :) hope this helps ladies!
