Dance lessons anyone?

Has anyone else taken dance lessons or considering taking them?   I think I may have convinced FI to take a couple with me.  I don't want to do anything choreographed, but it would be nice for him to learn the right way to spin and dip me.  I was curious if anyone had any experiences to share.  Smile

We haven't done it yet but we were given a ball room dancing gift certificate when we bought our house.  So I am hoping to before the wedding!

We might do them, but I definitely don't want to do anything choreographed either.  FI is actually the one that wants to do them.  I did modern/improv dance in college, and I feel weird about having our first dance be a performance (and it's also not really my kind of dance).  Anyway.  We will see.

How many lessons are you thinking of doing?  Just one or two, or a weekly thing?

We are planning on taking a few private lessons with our couple friends who are also getting married this year.  I found an American Ballroom Dance Academy in Auburn that offers lessons for 2-6 people for about $60 per lesson.  I hope we only need to take one or two, but I'm not that confident in my abilities, lol.

I"m glad we're not alone.  :)  I am thinking of hopefully just two lessons, as I'm not sure I could convince him to do much more.  I think that would be enough to get us more comfortable with the song and with the whole spin/dip thing.  I'd do more personally, because I think it would be a blast, but I'm just happy he's willing to go.  lol

We're hoping to squeeze a few lessons in. Not sure if I have time to though. FI really wants to which is kind of adorable. :)

Dance lessons can be very fun, I would just be careful as others have mentioned about not trying to learn anything too choreographed.

I had a friend who took lessons with her husband to be and it was awkward watching him count steps during what should have been a sweet moment.

I think dance lessons are a great idea! We took ours in Rockland at Swing & Sway and they were phenomenol!  They taught us a bunch of things, especially the importance of smiling at each other during the whole thing so it never looked unnatural. The fun thing is that we still use what we learned and it made us want to get into it for fun.  Good luck!
