I Just Got Engaged!!!

Last weekend my BF asked me to marry him!  And after we talked with our parents they ended up booking church and our reception hall, but what is the next direct step?  Is it best to find the photographer and DJ?  Do we send out invites or save the dates?  Does anyone have good recommendations on who to use?

Any help fellow knot brides (or grooms) could give us would really help... I just feel there is so much to do its a bit overwelming.

    CONGRATS!

Check out the knot's checklist, it gives you a really good timeline for these sort of things... When is your date?

Congrats!  The 1st thing I'd do is come up with a budget and the potential guest list.

    Ditto to the pp's.

Before ANYTHING should be booked, you need a date, a budget, and a guest list.

Chech out The Knot's wedding planning check list, it is a comprehensive list that will guide you through your planning.  You will find that some things don't apply and others are optional.

Thanks everyone!  We hashed out our budget some - and I am hoping my parents will feel generous and chip in more but I think things are looking up!

I am hoping to book a photographer and DJ soon... does anyone have any good recommendations?  For DJs I saw on here (and the A-List which I LOVE) Sound by Design, Accent Events, Muscal Revolution DJs, and Midwest Sound... any feedback on those companies would be great.

I am sort of lost on where to start for photographers - I didn't see many I liked from the A-List, and there are a lot on here so any help as to where to start looking would be great!

    Have a great day everyone!

Hey Sammy--I would not rec. Midwest :(
They played a live version instead, which had people cheering and clapping in it...not something a bride wants to walk down to!
    Also the speakers were cracking.

Another post said someone had problems with another dj named troy
they did mention one dj was good. I don't remember his name but it started with alf!
Should be in the recent post though!

Good Luck, and let me know if you need any help!

Juat as long as you are not ASKING them for $

DJ - we used All Star Music and loved them.  They were a good price, listened to what we wanted and emceed a fantastic night.  They checked in with us throughout the night to see if we were happy with the way things were going or if they needed to make any changes.

Photographers - This is always something I will push to spend a little more on.  We used Jessica Quist and LOVED her.  Extremely nice, great photography skills, a great portfolio, and timely.

Whoever you choose, look at entire portfolios rather than just featured photos on their websites.  They will only put the best up and you want to make sure that the entire shoot will have great pictures.

Where in WI are you located? My FBIL is a DJ, but he lives in Eagle River.

My photographer is Joe Hang, out of Manitowoc, but does lots of Milwaukee area weddings.  I was super impressed with our engagement photos and he is really fun to work with!  And affordabe as well

    Congrats!

Once you get your date picked and dig into researching venues/DJs/photographers, the next thing to think about is save the dates/invitations.  I made custom made wedding invitations and could help you thought that part of the process if you need.  Check out my website, www.paper-pleasers.com

Good luck with all your planning.  It does seem overwhelming at the beginning, but once you get the major things nailed down, it does get easier!

    Enjoy,
    Ellen

I have seen them at receptions and they have been great and they are who we booked. THey have been helpful so far and easy to contact, etc. As far as reception music goes, I like them---not to sound snarky, but who uses a dj for the ceremony music?? I've never seen it done... And are you sure that the bride didn't want the version of that song?
