Cookies instead of grooms cake?

I am having a traditional, 3-tiered wedding cake for our reception, but my FI isn't a cake eater. In fact, he's not really a desserts person at all. The only exception to this is chocolate chip cookies. So we were thinking instead of having a groom's cake, having a big display of chocolate chip cookies. It would also help cut some costs, especially since we're on a budget! I just want some feedback about this idea, does it sound like it would work out well, or better in theory?

    I think that would be great!  I LOVE chocolate chip cookies!  Plus, it is nice to have something other than cake to give your guests more options... you could always stack them up to resemble a cake as well!

    I think that's a great idea!  We're nixing the groom's cake as well and doing pies because FI LOVES pie.  We're also having fudge, a chocolate doughnut tower, and a candy bar.  We love sweets!

    A donut tower that sounds great!! Is the candy bar like a candy buffet?

    Not everyone likes cake anyway, embrace the cookies :]

    We are also doing a 3 tier cake and some cookies - choco chip, oatmeal and sugar.

    Why not? I haven't even heard of a groom's cake before the knot, so in my area it would be weird to have one.

    We are trying to do the same thing, the only problem is that we are working with a very tight budget, so we are not going to ask our bakery to do the cookies, I am doing them myself, which is also a problem because we don't have a caterer, my future mother in law and I are cooking everything ourselves. We have a few people that have medical diets (my stepdad is diabetic and my fiance's niece has chronic pancreantitis) so we don't want to take any chances. I think its a great idea, because like you said some people are just not cake people.

    we're doing cookies too!
    FI doesn't like cake, so i'm getting cupcakes for the main cake and cookies(from the grocery store) for the groom's cake.
    the way i see it, you can grab both a cookie and a cupcake. or just a cookie or cupcake. whatever you want.

    I love it! I saw a picture of someone who did cookies served with glasses of milk! cookies and milk, yum! Just an idea!

    Great idea!  I come from Pittsburgh where a cookie table is an absolute MUST at any wedding!  People come to weddings here expecting an enormous table filled with cookies.  I'm probably also going to have a groom's cake, just because my FI is in love with Hulk Hogan, and he would be really excited to be surprised with a Hulk cake.  Lol.  But I'll definitely be having tons of cookies, as well.  You can never have too many sweets :-)   The norm around here is to have many different family members all bake cookies to contribute.  That way you get a great variety and aren't overwhelmed with doing all of the baking yourself.  But if you just want to do chocolate chip, you shouldn't have any trouble making those yourself!

    We are doing milk and cookies too! My FI's only weakness is Oreos so it ws not a hard decision...waaaay cheaper too!!
