Re: Show me your.......

  • i'm stuck too!  Pictures needed! :o)
  • aww a meaningful hat box would be cute :)...........I dont have one of those though
no offense to anyone out there who is but the usual hat box card box is not my taste

someones got to have some great vintage ideas DIY ladies? Nukke? Princess?
  • Mine is not really vintage. It's your typical birdcage holder--except that it's black. I am going to make a vintage inspired sign for it though...

  • I'm doing a birdcage as well.  Pics in my Bio.  But I think it's neat to do a decorated vintage suitcase or old wooden box also.

mine's a birdcage probably too.  My mum has this one and I'm probably going to use it and decorate it with fresh flowers as well:

  • okay then where did you girls get your birdcages?
  • Mine's not very vintage at all, got it on overstock and added some ribbon to it.

  • Sorry mine is really boring. I didn't put much thought or effort into it at all, haha! It's just a vintage-looking patterned box I picked up at Joann's for $3 and cut a hole in the top and added some ribbon.

But I really love the vintage suitcase idea. I saw this train case one a while back. Here's the link: http://lillyella.blogspot.com/2009/10/reception-decor.html  (it's a little less than halfway down the page)

She got it from Ready Set Go on Etsy but they're a little pricey. I'm sure you can find a similar case at a thrift store.

  • My birdcage was from Target. I think it was around $20 but I purchased for my home and then figured I would use it since I had it and obviously already liked it. It is a candle holder so I covered the spike with a thick piece of Styrofoam and decorative paper.

  • I have a circle hatbox that is black and white damask that I got at Hobby Lobby for like $6 and I have two different birdcages (one is wooden, one is wrought iron) that I got at garage sales for $2 each. I don't know which to use! I will be painting the birdcages black to match my candleabra centerpieces and probably hanging vintage chandelier crystals off of them if I use them.

I'm no help on the birdcage.  As I said, it's my mum's and has been in our house since I was a kid.  My guess is she bought it in Thailand.

I am using a couple of  round hatboxes stacked on top of eachother,  covered in carnival tickets. This is my inspiration:

  • We are using a pottery cannister created by my FI grandfather. He was a mold maker for a well known pottery company during the 1930's. My dad made a round wooden lid for it and then cut a slot in the lid to drop cards in.
