Short Wedding Dresses

Anyone else wearing a short wedding dress?  This is my second marriage and his first.  I'm getting married on Oct 3 in an outside garden wedding.  I'm a little unsure about wearing a tea length gown (which is what I have purchased) and wondered if anyone else is going with the less formal look.

    Hi Kc8sli,

I'm getting married on Oct 16 th and I'm wearing a tea length dress.  I haven't purchased it yet, but, I found the one that I really like on line.  I want to loose 10 lbs or so and then I'll go get sized and order it.  I really liked the style and the fact that I thought it was the most appropriate dress for the occassion.  I just felt like been there done that with the first one.  It's a second marriage for the two of us.  I'm still having all the traditional weding stuff, only without the full bridal etire.  No veil just a simple updo   I'm leaning towards simple elegance.  If you want you can look at my profile and click on photo's I have a lot of the things that I planning for my wedding there.  Where did you get your dress?  Did you go on line and was it a good experience?   Anyway, I'm sure whatever you choose will look beautiful on you and your'll feel wonderful in it.

I considered it, but found a floor-length dress that I just loved.  If it works for you - great!  Sounds perfect for an outside garden wedding.  What is FI wearing?

I purchased my dress from David's Bridal ... originally I didn't want to consider a short dress but my mom picked it out and insisted that I try it on.  Once I did, I immediately thought it was the one.  BUT - the more I look at dresses, the more I start to think that I should have gone with a long dress.  I should really just stop looking at dresses!  I'm brand new to this website and not very technically savy so I'll try to figure out how to post a pic of the dress that I bought.  My FI is just going to wear a black suit with a white dress shirt and black/red tie (color choice is Apple Red and Fall Colors:  deep oranges and golds).  My mother and his father will be standing with us so we have a VERY small wedding party.

I LOVE that dress and thought about purchasing it myself.  Once I tried it on though I didn't like how it fit me (too bad).

I think tea length dresses are adorable, they don't look nice one me, so I went with a floor length.  Go with it if it is what you want!!!!

I wore a tea-length dress that I designed for my first wedding, in 1985.  Since everyone was wearing Diana-type dresses, it was quite radical.  I never tried anything else on.

So, this time I tried on dresses.  And I tried on dresses.  I ended up with a Grecian-inspired dress from DB.  Didn't love it, but DH did, so there you go.  I would have ordered something online if I could have someone who could have made the one dress I liked, but it was a couture, and way to expensive for my private beach ceremony.

I consider myself a "vintage" bride (both style and age) and have decided to purchase a wedding suit for my July wedding.  Ann Taylor has a wonderful suit that I just love.

I just started planning the wedding this week, so at least I have that decision behind me!

Yes I'm planning on wearing a tea lenth too.  We will be together 25 years on our weding day & I'm also thinking maybe a silver gown. It will be tea lenth.

I think a tea-length dress will be perfect for that! Like everyone else said it depends on what you feel comfortable in. I'm a classic girl so I'll be going with a floor-length number myself but I do love the look of alot of the short dresses out there!

    Welcome kc8sli! Another Michigan gal!

I think the dress you chose is fabulous! It's perfect for the event you describe. And yes, you need to stop searching the internet except for the things you do NOT have behind you....... you have a dress, so check it off your list & proceed to the other things.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much ladies!  I really needed to hear that I wasn't the only one wearing a short dress (I knew I wasn't but just needed that reassurance!).  I am officially going to quit looking at wedding gowns and concentrate on not stressing over the big day.  I have my ensemble complete now, including the shoes!  All I have to do now is wait for the date!

I go back and forth on this ... we're getting married in July 2011, outside, it will be hot, hot, hot!  Tied for #1 are either a short cocktail/vintage-inspired style OR a long, breezy look.  Coming in close behind would be an actual vintage dress.

Here are a few looks I've come to adore:

I have no idea which direction I'll go in ... I think it will truly be a "last minute" decision (spring of next year) and so, my options will be limited (that's a good thing for me, btw!).  Decisions, decisions!

Love love LOVE the first short dress!  It's inocent and sexy all at the same time!  I really do like all of the pics but the first one is definetly the winner for my taste!  25 years together - what a great accomplishment!  Congrats and best of luck with the wedding!
