Reception Venue

I'm having a problem falling in love with a reception place. I love the look of the Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport, but its too small. Then again, some of the prices of others are just shocking.
We will likely have around 300 or so people. Also we really want to be at least near/walking distance of hotels because we both have alot of out of town friends and family coming.
Any pro's and con's of venues would be great!

Have you looked at the RiverCenter?  They do (or someone anyway) draping from the ceiling and uplighting.  That might accomodate your needs.  Your DJ might be the person to consult for the uplighting...I think most do it anymore.  Or what about The Lodge in Bettendorf?  That is a hotel and has an older, classic feel like the Blackhawk does.  Hope you find something!!

Look into the Figge Art Museum in downtown Davenport, you can get a feel for the place on their website: http://www.art-dma.org/Facility-Rental.aspx we also looked at the SteepleGate Inn in Davenport, they will take you on a tour and can do everything from the showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception and opening gifts the next day with family. It was out of my price range but considering everything that's included it might be a good fit for a different budget.

Unfortunately I think the Figge is even smaller than Blackhawk Hotel.  We looked at it but decided it was too small for us (we invited ~300).

What about Radisson in Davenport?  It doesn't have quite the same feel, but can hold your guests.  There's also the Water Convention associated with The Isle Casino Hotel and Stoney Creek Inn in Moline.

Tanglewood Hills Pavilion in Bettendorf (http://tanglewoodhillsqc.com/) seats arond 300 and is GORGEOUS inside.

Many of the hotels around will run a free shuttle there too!

So even though we just checked at a year out, apparently waterfront convention center, jumers, and the radisson are booked for our date. :(
