Cookie Bar!

My fiance and I finally came up with a little extra something to do for our wedding.  We had really liked the idea of a candy bar but his cousin who got married not too long ago had a candy bar and we didn't want to do the same thing.  So we have decided to do a cookie bar!  I'm so excited to do this because I've never been to a wedding with one and I love baking!  We're working on coming up with all the cookie flavors so we can do some test runs with the cookie dough since I'm planning on freezing some ahead of time.  I would also love to have small cartons of milk for guests to take with them but I have no idea where I would get some.

Any one else planning on doing a cookie bar?  If so, what kind of cookies are you planning on having?

  • this is a fun idea! Do you know what kind of cookies you are going to make?

  • Cute! I would just make sure there's a variety and some without nuts and stuff like that to accommodate allergies
  • That is a lot of fun, and you can definitely make some delicious cookies!

Cute idea! I'd probably skip the milk, unless you're going to serve it for people to drink there (as in, have a gallon of milk in a bucket of ice or something for people to use or for someone to serve). Between trying to keep all the milk bottles cold enough and travel time, the milk might go bad before they get it home, and most people have milk at home, anyways.

ETA: Maybe you can have copies of the recipes for people to take home so that they can make their favorites?

  • Cookie bar sound very nice. Never thought of that. It is a very unquie idea, you guest will always remember that.

My friend got married three years ago and he and his wife gave cookies as their gifts to the guest. We recieve them in a paper bag ( the color of the wedding) with a monogram sticker, I thought it was so cute.

I highly recommend the cookie bar  - I'm from Pittsburgh originally and it's a tradition in that area to have one (although they call it a cookie table). They are a huge hit, everyone will love it!

The tradition is for all of the women in the families of both the bride and groom to bake one type of cookie (several dozen) and they all combine into one BIG table. It gets a little ridiculous, my brother's wedding was for around 200 people and there were over 2500 cookies. However, assuming you aren't from crazy Pittsburgh I'd stick to just 5 or 6 different kinds max.

that is a cute idea. Someone mentioned milk, did you have that in your orignal post? Please don't change posts without mentioning it (ie:edited for clairity etc). It is rude when we don't know what other people are talking about.

Very cute idea!  If you are set on the milk cartons you could try it online but I also agree with whoever else said that it might not be a necessary thing to do and you could just have the cookies like you would the candy.  I also agree with Zims to make sure you cover the nut allergy thing and maybe even have little signs with the cookies about allergies.  We have a few allergies for our wedding so I'm just making little things for our candy bar for any candy that nut allergies should stay away from.

ETA: some cookie ideas would be like the standard chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar cookies (which can be fun with different shapes and colored sprinkles!) and also maybe something like jam thumbprint cookies or shortbread cookies that can be made into whatever flavor (I made almond shortbread and peppermint sugar cookies at Christmas and everyone loved them).
  • The milk idea is in the last sentance of the first paragraph of her post.

Snickerdoodles are also geat. If you're up to it, whoopies are fun (I have a whoopie maker from Babycakes). You can make any flavor combination you want. There are endless possibilities when it comes to cookies :)
