Color ideas?

 Hi, I am new :o)

We will be getting married on the beach at sunset & he will be in Army Dress Blues.. I had an idea of Green & Orange.. but thinking that is not going to look good with his uniform.

Any ideas or thoughts would be great!!! Thanks!! Kari :o)

Re: Color ideas?

  • Don't try to get matchy matchy with uniforms.  Just go with colors you like!  The uniform compliments everything!!

  • I agree with SamiJoe. I did some googling and I think you'll be good
Here's one I found that had your color
  • Ditto PPs. I don't get why some brides always try to match their colors to the uniform? It's almost like saying, would you want to match your wedding dress to the colors too? The groom is just as important, he needs to stand out, not blend in, KWIM?

I think green and orange would work well together.
  • I would match your colors more to fit the beach feel of your wedding than his clothing. We chose colors that would compliment H's uniform without being "matchy" (granted he wore white.. so... anything matches :P ), that were gender neutral, and were a couple favorites.
I'm not sure how I feel about orange and green for a beach wedding? How formal is the wedding? Are his blues really appropriate? I'm asking, not to be snarky, but because it seems that most people who have beach weddings are having much more casual affairs. Dress Blues would not be very appropriate for that.
You will find here that no one likes to see "matchy" weddings to the uniform. Choose what you think is appropriate for the feel/theme/location of your wedding :)
  • Ditto ftl. We got married on a beach in August, h did not want to wear his uniform. Mostly because of the heat really. Instead we found an awesome linen suit that he wore.

  • H and the groomsmen wore their dress blues and our color was "clover" which is a light greenish color.  It would be the same if you were trying to match the dresses to a tux, you would not.  I have yet to see a color that does not look good with the dress blues.  Ladies, help me out if you can think of one.  HAA

Personally, I would stay away from orange but that is just my opinion since orange makes me think of a few certian schools that makes my skin crawl.  HAA

Good luck with your planning and welcome to the board.

  • I'm also wondering why so many people try to bend their colors to compliment the uniforms.  I mean, has black been a wedding color?  Nope, but guys have worn black tuxes forever!!!  Just like a black tux, a uniform goes with everything.

  • Ditto to everyone else!  Think of the uniform as a nuetral (goes with everything).  I think Orange is beautiful for a beach wedding, especially a sunset one!!  Orange is a hit or miss color, either you love it or you dont :)  I would think about staying with a warm color as your second color though, otherwise the stark contrast of a cool color and a warm color may be a little harsh with the softness of a beach wedding . Formality doesn't matter, but a beach is soft and flowing and you don't want your colors to contrast that.  Orange and a deep red or a magenta or something warm, even yellow would be beautiful and then accent with white or another neutral and it would all flow really well.

Don't want to sound like I am telling you what to do, but I get carried away with colors....I am doomed to forever be picky being my mom is an interior decorator!!!
