Ring Question

Hi! I have a question I'm hoping you could help me with. We went to get my wedding band on Saturday, and the woman helping us told me to get the wedding band a 1/2 size bigger than my engagement ring. She said that they fit differently, and that they always recommend to do that. Does this sound familiar to you? Is your band the same size or different than your engagement ring?

It does have diamonds all the way around it- not sure if that makes a difference or not.

My wedding band has diamonds on it as well and it's the same size as my engagement ring. I wanted to have the option to wear them seperately, without fear of losing the band. That's the first that I've ever heard sizing up, especially that much. I wouldn't be comfortable with that and would probably prefer to have my engagement ring and wedding band the same size.

My band also has diamonds. We got the same size as my finger. I never have heard of ordering a size up.

My wedding band also has diamonds on it. It is the same size as my engagement ring, I wanted the wedding band to fit flush withmy enagagement right but also want to be able to wear my wedding band alone. I have never heard of getting a larger size wedding band.

Ditto pp's. Obviously I don't know where you're going or the business, but she may try to get you to order a size up because then there's more diamonds and that equals more money for her.

My e-ring and wedding band have pave set small diamonds on the bands. We ordered the rings to be the same size and I actually ending up getting my wedding band downsized half a size because the base of my fingers is smaller than were my e-ring sits!

I have never heard of this either. In fact, the band should be the same size as your engagement ring since it will be closer to your knuckle and thus should be somewhat snug.

My band is the same size and the engagement ring. I wouldn't ever want it a 1/2 size bigger. There may be times that I will wear it on it's own and don't want it falling off.

Aw shoot; apparently my post didn't stick yesterday.

I've never heard of this, nor would I recommend it. Although I don't know who your jeweler is, I almost wonder if she's telling you to size up because then that means more diamonds and more money.

My e-ring and wedding band both have pave set tiny diamonds and I (shamefully), lost my wedding band (REMINDER: get your rings insured!!). When I ordered my new band we ordered the same size as my e-ring, but it ended up spinning a ton and was too big, so I actually have my wedding band a half size smaller than my e-ring since it's lower on my finger.

(I point out the cost difference because when we ordered my wedding band I was a size 7 and that's what the ring was appraised for. However, I lost weight and had my e-ring resized to 6.5 so that's what size I ordered for the replacement wedding band and I ended up getting a credit from my jeweler insurerer since the ring dropped in value. I hope this makes sense)

I know that when you pair an engagement ring with a band, the set feels tighter than just the band or e-ring alone. That's because your skin has less room to expand around the ring. If that's the case, they should have advised you to go up in size for both, not just one.

I got both my rings fitted and sized at Jared and they sized them the same. Maybe it varies from make and design?

I'm surprised at people's responses, as I've been to 2 different jewelers in downtown Chicago and both have recommended getting an eternity band sized either .25 or .50 bigger than the engagement ring. There are 2 reasons why (1) when you have 2 rings on, they will feel more snug than just with 1 ring, and (2) you can't resize an eternity band, so it's good to get them a little bigger to allow for finger growth in the future. If it's too big down the road and annoys you, you can always get sizing balls.
