  Honestly, I'd scrap the spanx and go with a boustier (is that how you spell it?). From my experience, the only spanx that don't roll down after awhile are the ones with straps, and obviously that's not an option for you in a strapless dress. 

  The bridal salon where I bought my dress supplied these nice long boustier's for you to wear under the dresses when you were trying them on, and I couldn't believe how comfortable they were (never having worn one before), even though the have a little bit of boning him them, though it's flexible. They give you nice lift in the bust, and they really nip in your waist and flatten the tummy. I couldn't believe the difference it made. I had brought spanx with me, and even trying dresses on, I found them very uncomfortable under the dresses, and I was sweating like crazy, so I gladly tried the boustier

  Try and find a boustier that comes down over your waist and hips though, otherwise you end up with a muffintop situation (told to me by the salesgirl).

  I've never had any issues at all with Spanx rolling down.  Not if you buy the real Spanx brands.  Some of those other ones are like some kind of torture device.  I generally buy the "higher power" Spanx (Im actually wearing them right now) and I've never had a problem with them.  Plus they're comfortable.  They hold everything in without causing a huge roll at the top of them.  I'll be wearing them under my wedding dress as well.  I wear mine so much in fact that after 5 million washings I  have to replace them, always with the same thing.

  oh, and I forgot to add the Spanx only hold in your stomach, the bottom part is like a regular panty
