Flowers for deep purple dresses?

Hello everyone,

I'm getting married in May 2012 in TN, and my colors are deep purple (lapis, according to DB), cream, and silver. I want to use cream roses for the bridesmaid bouquets, but I'm unsure what other colors will be complementary. I don't want to use green or blue flowers if I can help it, and I'm afraid pink and red will look too strange. Am I being too picky? Also, I wanted to carry a red rose bouquet, but my fiance is convinced it won't look good in the pictures with the bridesmaids' purple dresses. I was hoping to compromise with a cream rose bouquet with a few red roses, so that my bouquet doesn't disappear into my dress. Thoughts on either my bouquet or my bridesmaids? Thanks so much.

I guess I don't understand why you think you need another color in either bouquets. Cream roses are lovely, it's what we had (see picture below). Most bouquets will have some greenery around the outside so your bouquet doesn't "disappear".

    Here's a closeup

I have a huge lavendar bush that blooms for several months, right next to my side door. Lavendar is probably pretty close to the "lapis" color, and even if not identical, would provide tiny accents. It has a long stem, with tiny purple flowers on the end. Would provide a small accent "pop". There are also lavender colored roses which would be in the same family and pick up the colors you already have.

You mention you don't like green or blue, pink or red. What about yellow? I think yellow and purple shades look great together (think about Easter).

I'm surprised your fiance has an opinion........most guys don't. But I think I agree, red would look a bit "off", but then the only time your bouquet and the wedding party with their bouquets will be in the same vicinity is for pictures. Once you get to the reception, the flowers are set aside and no one notices anything.

    Good luck.

I am using similar colors for my wedding in April. Eggplant and silver and the bridesmaids are wearing eggplant dresses, also a dark purple. I am struggling a bit with flowers, the first sample bouquets were nice but too purple. I did love the eggplant calla lillies that were included though. You could try adding those?

you can spring up with some lavender or lilac tones...You might even be able to get real lilacs in may  How fun would that be?  Fushisa is also a nice compliment. and if you are going very elegant take a look at amnesia roses... odd but bery rich color.

My BM's are in dark purple and they will be carrying a light purple bouqet with dark purple accents, with a few ivory flowers. I will have a darker puple bouquet with light accents and few ivory flowers. They will all be wild flowers, I'm so excited about it. Our florist could tell what vision I was going with and ran with it. I'm really impressed!
When I went to the florist I just had a general idea of color and the wild flower theme. She was the one to pull together the tones and dark vs. light. Find a good wedding florist and they will be able to help you find your style.

Here's a suggestion.  You could carry a deep rosy red shade rose bouquet, which wouldn't clash with the purple dresses.  The bridesmaids could carry white and pink bouquets, and it would all blend together.  Bunches Bob

flowers come in many shades of purle/lavender/raspberry/plums, all thes shades of purple look good together. My suggestion is to do a monochromatic(shades of one color) bokay for your girls and have the same flowers for yourself but add a few creams/white flowers.  When you see your pictures after the wedding I really believe you will like the more "colorful" flowers. Much prettier than just ivory/white bouquets. And just because you have chosen lapis/cream/silver doesn't mean you are limited to those specific colors in the flowers.........JMO,the red roses with the purple dresses remind me of the red hat ladies and school colors....  sorry  not my favorite combo :(
