Bad etiquette to register for...

Hello ladies.

Newly engaged and new to the knot! Just curious if its bad etiquette to register for electronics (say iPod dock/stereo) and tools? FI and I already live together and don't need a lot of common registry things (kitchen stuff etc).

Also any advice helps! Thanks!

Edit I should mention we are planning a 9-10 month engagement and will have approx 150 guests.

    Ditto Edie.

    Just make a small traditional registry of "upgrade" items that we all replace every few years, anyways. Even if you don't need them right now you certainly will use them as you build your life with FI.

    Fancier sheets/towels
    Duvet/cover
    Knife Set
    Pots/Pans
    Bakeware
    Serveware (think nice bowls, etc, for entertaining)
    Wine glasses

    I think household items that you will use together (or toward a common goal) are fine, and I would put an iPod dock and tools in that category.  I would also have some more typical registry items, such as upgrades to sheets, bakeware, etc., for people to choose from if they want to get a more traditional gift.

    We registerd for an ipod dock/alarm/radio. I don't see a problem with it, as PP said, if it's not a majority of the registry.

    I think its absolutely fine to register for tools or an ipod dock.  My best friend did this and those were some of their favorite gifts!

    I think it's fine if you put electronics or tools on your registry,
    but a previous poster suggested a knife set.

    Now THAT's a HUGE etiquette problem.  You really can't give anyone a KNIFE SET as a wedding present.  Even if they give you a penny in return - that's just odd and that's just a way to cover up that the giver really disregarded etiquette to begin with.  See below:

    Kristin not only does the link you posted say many times you can give a penny with it (as many posters on the thread indicated they had received) its also a completely nonsensical and insane superstition that I had never heard of before and I doubt many others who are younger then 50 have as well.

    I don't think it'll be an issue.  We don't have a ton of electronics, but we have a few. We also put a few DVD sets that we wanted on there just because we wanted something cheaper on the list for friends and family that could not afford a lot but still wanted to get us a gift.
