Such a tough decision, I know! MN weather is so unpredictable, I think it's best to have an alternative for an outdoor wedding just in case the weather doesn't cooperate on your big day. We're having an outdoor wedding in June at a beautiful garden in Stillwater, but the wedding is under a tent just in case it rains!

We had an outdoor wedding in July. We had a gorgeous setting (Washington County Historic Courthouse) and got some lovely pictures. It was slightly overcast and would have been perfect if not for the heat. It was during that insane heat wave and everyone was sweating a ton. People were pretty good sports about it, though. Nobody made any comments to us and people look back on it and laigh. It wasn't like we could control the weather and our ceremony was short. If you do an outdoor wedding, just make certain that you have a plan B in case of rain. We could have moved our ceremony indoors, but since it was only about 15 min we kept it outdoors. As long as you have your bases covered, you will be Ok. And Aug is usually better weather than July.

We're having our wedding outdoors at Black Bear Crossing on the promenade. It's great, because it's outdoors, but it's a huge covered promenade, so even if it rains you're covered and don't have to rent a tent or have a back up plan. And it overlooks Lake Como, and overall is just a really gorgeous location. Plus they've been great to work with, I highly reccommend them! :)

ETA: If you do decide to have an outdoor ceremony, you absolutely would need a back up plan - the weather is so fickle, you just never know!

ETAA: They have a built in sound system and two mics come with the rental, plus you can hook up a cd player or ipod to the system for ceremony music. :)

I always wanted to have an outdoor wedding but we're doing ours in March now so.. probably not a good idea :-)

I agree with having a backup location in case of rain. Also, music and hearing what's going on is more difficult most of the time. It's harder to set up a sound system outside and with wind or other outdoor noise, it's hard to hear things without microphones or anything.

I'd definitely suggest checking out places with built-in backup plans so you don't get stuck paying for two locations and only using one. You could also look for venues like the conservatory that seem outdoors without actually being outdoors. If I can work it into my budget I'd love to do my ceremony there but I don't think it will hold enough people. I'm sure there are other options though :-)

I had always wanted an out door ceremony. But, after lots of discussion with my DH we decided it would look better in the long run if we did the indoor wedding. We were not stressed about the weather, and our ceremony space was beautifully decorated and amazing.

I love outdoor weddings. One thing I would add...make sure that your backup location is adjacent to where the outdoor ceremony would be. Not everybody thinks of this, but if your guests have to drive to a different location for the backup, there will be massive confusion. For instance, where do they go if it *looks like* it will rain. Or where do they go if it was raining and then it stops? It would make for a really nerve-wracking experience for both the guests and the wedding party!

Some friends of mine had a backup location that was a ways from the original location, and they were nervous wrecks as the wedding approached as they didn't think in advance what a logistical nightmare it would be.
