This might be a silly question, but when is it too early to buy chocolate for my favors? I am going to buy a ton of Andes mints for my favors, and I know chocolate lasts for a long time, but my wedding is still 3 months away. Is now too early?
When my DD got married a few years ago we did a candy buffet for the favor. I called each company and asked them the shelf life of their produce and how to read the date codes so that our candy would be fresh. Every one of them was very helpful. Give Andes a call - I'm sure they would be happy to answer your questions.
Andes has an expiration date on their packages, so just make sure it's well after your date.
As a rule of thumb, mass-produced chocolate has a shelf life of about 6 months. You NEVER want to put it in the fridge or freezer or it will get a white/gray film on it. Gourmet chocolates only have a shelf life of 1-2 weeks, but the chocolatier can tell you if that's the route you end up taking.
