HELP! Weave Troubles...

Hey Ladies,

So I got a weave because I am getting married by a beach and I don't trust my natural hair with all that humidity.

I was my first weave and it itches like CRAZY! I've tried the small comb, tried patting, even hitting my head and it still itches!

I bought this no-itch weave stuff, it doesn't work and it just makes my hair greasy.

I dont know what to do!

Any advice will be appreciated

P.S. the hair trial went VERY well... so I'll be lookin good at the wedding but itching like a dog with fleas!

Do people usually get weave this early? You are almost 3 months out before your wedding - it seems like it wouldn't be as tight or as "fresh" looking by the time your big day arrives? I am not a regular weave wearer, so forgive me if I'm asking ignorant questions!

I wanted to make sure it would look good and that it was what I wanted... I didn't want to get it done right before the wedding and hate it!

I'll get it redone right before the wedding, but I can keep the hair & re-use so it'll be drama free.

I LOVED the way it looked but it just itches so much!

I've heard if you oil sheen the roots a little that helps. You might try that!!! GL

You need a long bobby pin...just try to get one that has the coating on the end so that you don't scratch up your scalp.

Glad your hair looks nice. Weave itches honestly...even high quality weaves. I've gotten used to it...I'm transitioning with the help of sew-ins so I had no choice but to suck it up.

Sorry PB, but I have to disagree! Don't oil your hair...that's cool for braids, but oil sheen will weigh down other types of hair and have it flat and oily looking until you wash/refresh it!

The one time I had weave for my prom I literally took it out the next day. So I'm not help, but I'm glad the other ladies have tips because I'm sure I'll be experiencing the same thing in like 2 months lol.

@amberlynned, what did you get done to your hair? Did you get a sew-in? Or something else? I need to figure out what I'm going to do with my hair for the wedding and I'm drawing a blank.

Missrekaeagle, I got a sew-in. I wanted my hair like the pic below and I wanted it to be about the length I have now (which is bra-strap length).

So I got a referral for a hair stylist that is really great, and she told me to do it now rather than later because you need to make sure you like it and you have enough time to rethink it if you don't. Also, so you know what to do with it while you're on your honeymoon....

Anyway, I bought two packs of hair and she hooked it up in 2 hours! But I'm glad I did it early because I would hate scratchin like this on my wedding day! Most women say you just get used to it.... I'mma give it another week before I consider another option...

I love the hair style you chose.

I also had the same problem when I got a weave for the first time in 2008. I liked the way it looked but it itched a lot. Unfortunately, I did what they say you shouldn't do. I started adding oil to the roots because I thought I needed that since the weave felt wicked tight. Needless to say, that didn't help.

I suggest you talk to your hair stylist about the itching cause she might be able to provide some recommendations.

Hi Amberlynned: Hope you get this message before you scratch yourself to death...

Ok... if you got sew-in, you can do the bobby-pin, rat-tailed comb option, or you can get yourself some other type of scalp-itch reliever...such as Scalpacin or something of that sort... Weave does itch by nature but it will subside over time..as the braids/tracks loosen up with your hair growth. In the short run... the benadryl, anti-histimine suggestion was a good one... Try not to oil your scalp anymore... That will only weigh your hair down and loosen the tracks...If you got your weave bonded / glued instead of sewn-in... they will slip right on out with the oil.....So, moving forward... Make another appointment with your stylist to have your hair shampooed... to remove that oil.... or you can do it yourself.. if you're really good.... But, just try to deal with it as much as you can, so that you can really see what types of hairstyles are gonna work for you for your occassion. I wear weave, so it has its ups and downs... but its a great option and can work... if you work it... Like I said.. get you some sort of scalp itch reliever like Scalpacin... which is what I use, take a NON-DROWSY Benadryl and Keep It Movin'!!! We all know.... BEAUTY IS PAINFUL!!! But you can do it....

Let us know what you decide... But, if weave costs as much over there, as it does here.... You might not wanna take it out too too soon... You will not have gotten your $$$'s worth and had a chance to really work with it to see if it can work for you. I hope that helps.. and let us know what you decide... Either way.. You will be beautiful...

I am ashamed to admit it, but my weave is now so oily I had to wear it up in a bun today. HAHA.... I'll get it washed and see how it feels after that. It already is A LOT less itchy today than it has been so maybe it is just a matter of getting used to it... Just in case though, I'll have some Scalpacin nearby if it starts to itch again!

Girl you will thank me for this! TRUST!!!

Okay first wash that oil right outta your hair!! (Like South Pacific!) And make sure you dry really well (damp hair will cause u itch issues) and you only going forward need a bit of oil on the scalp. . . nothing major.

The cure for the itchies -- gonna sound crazy but it works.
1) Witch Hazel! Yup -- I said Witch Hazel -- Put some in a bottle with a nose like the type you use to apply color -- so you can get under the hair and into the scalp area between tracks and witch hazel away -- just let it drip out. . onto a towel -- and dry your hair.

2) Tea Tree Oil -- use same application method as above. This has a stronger smell and is way more expensive than witch hazel but it has a similar effect including a tingly feeling.

Also the two top remedy are both astringent/cleaning agents so they help keep your scalp & hair clean between washings so you don't have to worry about them leaving any residue.

Nothing worse than an itchy weave!
