A honeymoon registry is just a way to ask for money.  People create a "honeymoon registry" online and instead of buying you dishes, your guests can donate to your honeymoon fund.

It's often thought of as a really tacky and rude thing to have.  It's just another way to ask for cash, and often the websites take a percentage, so you don't even get the full amount.  You wouldn't under any other circumstances ask people to pay for your vacation, so what makes this vacation different?

Yea, now that im learning more about it I don't like it. I don't think my family and friends should pay for my honeymoon. If I couldn't afford it..I wouldn't go on one. I understand some people say they have a lot of stuff for their home and that would actually go to use, but im just not a fan. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem.  I must admit that when I read the title of your post I thought "oh no".  I was very relieved that you weren't asking which website was best :)

We did a honeymoon registry and our family loved it.  We had a registry at bed bath and beyond with some stuff on it, but we bought a house last year and didn't need much.  So the honeymoon registry allowed them to feel like they were still giving us a gift instead of just a check.  They could pick something out.  A prefect example was Hubby's aunt.  She gave us part of our car rental as a gift.  She made up a whole thing in our card saying "zoom zoom to a new life together". It was so cute!

I thought it was a great idea and it worked well for us and our guests.  Not everyone feels that way. It depends on who you are.   But most of our guests actually got us something off our honeymoon registry over the BB&B registry.  It was almost complete where our BB&B one still has tons on it.  I will be on the hunt for those 20% off coupons now so we can finish it off.

I think I would need most of the things off my registry since FI and I are buying a house after the wedding and getting new furniture. Im pretty sure we will just stick to a regular wedding registry. I think its a good second option if you have people on the fence and maybe some family/friends would rather help out in that area. Im glad it worked out for you, Allie! Also, Congrats!! Im soo happy for you two. I guess you guys aren't on your honeymoon yet since you are posting, so have a blast when you do. :)

I agree with Mary, I'm not a huge fan of the HM registry, and most people aren't... but I guess it really depends on your circle of friends/family. My friends/family would find it rude.

We did a HM registry too & everyone has loved it. They thought it was a great idea & have loved contributing to our wedding.
We already live together so we don't need things like towels or china or a new toaster. Not that there's anything wrong with normal registries. It just wasn't what we wanted.
I think your HM IS different than a typical vacation.
However, we did not expect our family & friends to pay for our entire HM. And obviously if they had other gifts in mind, we didn't say no or act ungrateful.
We're planning on taking pictures on our HM & including them with our thank you cards to thank people more personally for whatever they contributed to.
