October 2013 Weddings

What has been the worst part of your planning so far?

Mine is the invite wording. Finally someone from Cards&Pockets facebook page told me there are templates free to use. Umm that would have been helpful a LONG time ago!

I think I might have it figured out and once I do, and have a sample, I will show you ladies.

Re: What has been the worst part of your planning so far?

  • Mine was picking out a dj. I have been to so many weddings where the dj's were either super cheesy or weren't involved at all. Also I feel like opinions about a certain dj differ for each person, so asking people for recommendations was difficult.

  • Venue for sure. I was fixating on details like carpet patterns (seriously, why are so many hideous), light fixtures and draping and it was making it difficult to find something that matched my exact vision.

I'm actually working on my invitation wording today too. I used pinterest as a starting point bc I've noticed a lot of pinners posting unique copy choices that could be fun to use.

I am so glad I don't have a mom like that! My mom is also lucky that I am complete opposite of my sister in that I really don't care, don't get stressed out about the small stuff, and would rather say "do what you want" instead of "make sure you check with me first". Yes, my sister was a bridezilla and my mom couldn't order her dress without my sister seeing it first.

  • Saving money!!!!! The holidays killed us and then FI's truck broke down. We still need to pay personal property taxes, bar dues, and insurance. Jeez! I am so stressed about being able to save enough for the wedding.....

  • being stuck in the office for at least 8 hours a day monday - friday when i would much rather be planning my wedding ;-D

that and spending all that money. i still can't believe how much things cost!

ohmygosh... me too. My biggest struggle with this is that my parents are paying for it, so I know I can't be too fussy. But seriously. my FI told me before we were officially engaged that he wanted to help wedding plan. And now she's basically saying I don't have to run anything by him, because it's not about him? Um... what? Since when is this wedding just about me?! No! I don't want that!!! I managed to keep my mouth shut when she said, "No. He can't wear that because I don't want him stealing any of the spotlight off of you." o.O

  • Finding a bridesmaid dress! I have 6 bridesmaids and three are pregnant and due right before the wedding.

  • Hotels ballrooms always have horrible carpet. I don't get it.
  • The whole paying for it thing has been the worst part. Other than that, everything's been pretty peachy, and my dad told me earlier this week that my Grandma's actually wanting to pay for everything, so I can plan whatever I want. I think I'm gonna stick with something we could pay for by ourselves instead of treating my really awesome grandma as an endless money vat.

  • The worst part for me is trying to differentiate between what I think I "should" have and what I actually want. FI and I are pretty laid back people. Our parents have all sorts or ideas on what a wedding entails but to be honest, I could care less about having anyone walk me down the aisle, DJ introductions, first dances, bouquet toss, etc. it's easy to get swept up in all these little things, but they honestly don't matter! All I need is my FI, an officiant and a venue. Add some food, cake, good music and a great photographer, and I'm set. Anything else is extra. I just have to keep telling myself that to keep from getting overwhelmed, lol.

  • For us its been our dinner and bar decisions. We weren't sure if we wanted a plated dinner or buffet, we finally did choose buffet and will be going later this year to taste test food options. The bar I'm still unsure of, definitely not open but I want to provide something(My family is from Wisconsin!)

Me too! The other night my FI told me that we can do whatever I want, but if we accrue too much debt we may have to delay having children. WTF?! I mean, he's right, but I still can't believe he said that. (And FYI I have meticulously planned and tracked every penny we've spent/will spend. It's not like I'm going nuts).

  • I just got an email from the guy I've been talking to at our reception venue..... The caterer we were going to sign with just ended their contract with them. (We're having our reception in an art museum.) So the quote, menu, all of it, poof. Gone. Out the window.

Starting over from scratch now..... *sigh* Hopefully they can honor our menu we had before....
  • Honestly, nothing really has bothered me. I was a bit nervous about find a date that all my preferred vendors could do, but in the end it all worked out.

So far, so good..here's hoping it continues to be smooth sailing!

  • Worst part so far is figuring out paying for everything. That is the #1 worst part of all of this. Second, would have to be dealing with a Fiance who has an opinion on EVERYTHING! But we're both learning to compromise :) The third, which was huge in the beginning, is deciding whether to cater or make it ourselves.
