Guest List

Hey Ladies!

When did everyone start their GL? I still have 24 months until my wedding, but I am starting to get my rough guest list started. Am I crazy? Advice please!

That is a LITTLE far in advance because who knows how much things will change... think back to two years ago.  Do you have lots of new friends that you have made since then or friends you have grown apart with?  If not, then you're okay starting a list.  If so, then you might want to be careful.  However, it is always good to know a ROUGH idea of your head count, as you cannot book anything like reception or wedding location w/o knowing.

Good idea to have a rough count (ex - 100 vs 200 or more) when you look at venues to make sure it will fit your anticipated group (or not overwhelm a smaller gathering).  We knew about how many guests we wanted there (and fit our budget), but were tweaking who was in and out until we sent out the invites.

Most of our list so far is family. Both of us have HUGE families. No friends have been put on the list yet, unless we have known them for many years and still keep in touch.

Get a list of family - that will not change.  Then make a rough estimate for friends.  That will help give you a ball-park.

For the official guest list, I'd go with 9-6 months before the wedding.

We started our guest list that early and Im glad I did. It takes forever to track down addresses, and to make sure you don't forget people. I was constantly adding and deleting peple from ours. The only negative to starting it early is information changes such as addresses, relationships/name changes ect. Using the knot made it pretty easy (once you figure out how to use the guest list tool).

Tiger-That's what I am trying to do now. Most of our list is family, and they don't plan on moving anytime soon. I think I'll be less stressed once trying to figure out the final guest list time comes around. I have my mom, his step-mom, and his mom working on getting addresses for family that I can't remember or know the address.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

    Happy planning! :)
