200 wedding photos are missing due to corrupted memory

I'm a new poster here, but I could use some advice...

My photographers called and said that one of their memorry cards got corrupted.  So, I'm missing intros and our cake cut/smash, along with pictures of people dancing, shots with me and my friends, etc.  The memory was sent offsite and nothing was recoverable.  Upgrades have already been offered, so do we ask for money back, too?

Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Bummer. Check out new app, Capsule. I think you can set one up so all of your guests have a private online place to upload their photos to.. We're giving it a try at our wedding because they have a mobile app too that instantly uploads guests' photos. very moderately priced compared to everything we paid for- trycapsule.com

  • Thank goodness it wasn't the ceremony! I think I would look into what the photographer is offering as upgrades. You can't really redo the reception, but getting better quality/quantity pictures of the ceremony would be nice. And like PP said, check with your guests if they took pictures.
  • Take a look at what your contract says. The photographer may not even have to offer you uprgrades. Don't get me wrong, it totally sucks and I understand that you're upset, but most photographers have covered this kind of thing in their contracts and don't really have to offer anything. Mostly they do it because they are absolutely horrified that that something beyond their control has happened and images were lost.
  • I would ask for money back for at least the amount of time that those 200 pictures were taken in. For instance, my photographer charges $150 to add an hour of coverage or subtracts that amount to take an hour away from a package. So, if those pictures were taken over the course of an hour, I'd at ask for at least a $150 refund. But they should make it up to you in other ways too, since it is memories that can't be recreated!

  • HI I just found out I lost wedding photos due to corrupted film.  I have no photos of me gettting ready, me in my wedding dress, my mom helping me, photos with my mom, my rings, flowers, photos with my daughters.  And the photos that were taken, an amatuer can do!  I am so disappointed. I was offered an album but I am missing the beginning of my wedding day, so how can I have a wedding album without those pics?
