Honeymoons!

FI doesn't want to go too far away (why I don't really know) and plus he's just not a beach person. Like I mentioned in the e-pic question post, he wears long sleeves year round and claims that he would wear them on the beach and that people would think he was crazy...which is probably true. And besides that, I don't want to spend my honeymoon in the ER with him because he passed out from heat exhaustion. So we are leaning towards getting a cabin in Gatlinburg...which suits us both just fine. We really like this one that has its own private indoor pool and hot tub (I love water so this excites me lol), full kitchen, and  canopy bed (maybe I'm weird but I think they are romantic). FI has this idea that we are going to stock up on groceries and never leave the cabin the whole time we are there. Personally, I think that's just him reacting to the celibacy lol. Also for some reason, I am super excited about going honeymoon lingerie shopping.

So this leads me to my question...where are you lovely ladies staying?

Gatlinburg will fun! There's lots to do there!

We're going to drive across country. We've gone on two big road trips so far. The first was shorter, only 3300 miles. The second was 7200 miles. We drove all the way to Mt. Rushmore before driving south to Texas and across to Biloxi and back up. We have a National Parks passport which is similar to a real passport in that all the NP's in the country have stamps to stamp in them. We're on a mission to get all the stamps and we plan on stopping at as many as possible to do some hiking and camping. So we're going to drive all the way to Seattle, down the California coast and back across and back up. We're going to pick five cities along the way to stop in for full days to do touristy things. Like we want to stay in Seattle for a day because I lived there when I was younger and I want to go to Pikes Place and the Puget Sound. And FI wants to do a day San Francisco and go to Alcatraz. We're planning on being gone for like three weeks. I'm saving all my vacation time up (and my boss is aware and totally cool with it)

  • Dang cnf. Thats awesome.
We live in East TN, so Gburg is less than an hours drive. I've lived my entire life with a moutain view and I think there isn't anything prettier than just that so we are both pretty pumped lol. I think we might stay  about 4 nights and then spend the rest of our HM at home :)

  • We are definitely going somewhere with a beach! Not sure yet but our options are Hawaii/Cabo San Lucas/ or somewhere in the Carribbean.

  • Gatlinburg sounds beautiful and relaxing!

I think we are leaning towards Belize, Ambergris Caye specifically.  We love the beach and snorkeling, so it would be a perfect spot.

  • I'm going to Alaska!  We're there for 2 weeks and we're going to Seward, Glacier View, and Denali!  We're sooo excited!  We've both always wanted to go there.  And the thought of going somewhere tropical in June made us cringe because we hate being hot/sunburned.  We will be sea kayaking to a glacier in Seward (we'll also see tons of wildlife while sailing to the kayak launch site), hiking on Matanuska Glacier with a guide, and flightseeing to Mt. McKinley!  It's been stressful trying to plan a trip there, but I'm so excited to be going!  Everywhere we go we are going to book really cute and romantic cabins just to keep it feeling like a honeymoon.

  • cnf- your honeymoon sounds amazing! I've always wanted to drive across the country.

We're probably not going to do much. At first we wanted to do Ireland and France, then it was just Ireland, then it was drive across the country and now we're planning on a few days down Cape Cod or up in the white mountains in NH. We've talked about it and decided to use the money that would have gone towards a big honeymoon towards a house instead. We've basically become house obsessed lol. So we'll do something local for a few days then take a big anniverssary trip instead.

mrsk, is there anywhere you would recommend? I have stayed in Gburg alot with friends since we lived close but since I was in high school we all generally went with the cheapest place and so I'm not staying in any of those places ever ever ever again lol.
I'm iffy about only seeing the place online. I would hate to get there and it not be clean  or have other issues not visible in pictures.

I called and asked about the cabin that FI and I loved online and she said it was completely out in the woods by itself...that's all awesome and junk but now FI thinks I'm crazy because I'm worried about getting eaten by a bear or a bear getting in the cabin via breaking through a window because it smelled food. Or since it's completely by itself what if someone broke in and killed us or something? I'm making FI take his handgun lol.

  • Sugar, a cabin with its own pool? Heck yes.

We're planning on going to Europe and kicking around there for about 2 1/2 weeks. We're plannign on flying into whatever airport is cheapest, and using the train system to get around from there. Once we figure out what city we're flying into/out of, we're going to plot out a game plan from there, and see as much stuff as we can while we're there. We're going to end up spending a decent bit of money on it, but we figure that this is probably our only chance in the near future to do something like this, so it will be worth it.
  • @emily- I know! Its on the first floor of it. Its small though and only goes to 4.5 feet...I'm short so this is good for me but poor FI will only be half in the water lol.

  • So many great honeymoon ideas on here!

We are hoping to go to Hawaii but for that to happen we have to save up a lot. I'm awful at saving $ though, whenever I get a "surprise" check (like when my car insurance went down recently and they send me a refund) I end up spending it all. Needless to say my FI doesn't get too happy when he finds out about my shopping sprees!

  • FI just started a new job a few weeks ago, and he's not allowed to take time off between May 1 and Labor Day weekend so we won't get to go on a real honeymoon. I guess we'll try to go in the winter because he'll be able to take time off and my industry in really slow because of the weather.

We've talked about going on a cruise or to an all inclusive resort. I have no idea at this point.

  • My fiance's parents are letting us use their time share which is transferable to Maui so that is what we are leaning towards doing.  However, the flights are still SO EXPENSIVE.  I think it will be worth it though. :)
