Wedding set on fire..

CN: Lodge where the couple was getting married caught fire while the Bride was getting ready. They moved the ceremony and reception to another building, but the couple still took pictures in front of the blaze.

How the heck can you take smiling pictures in front of a blazing building? That is so odd to me.

I saw this before. I think its kind of ridiculous. The building was on fire and they made the staff move around things for their reception? Um, really. I understand wanting to get married, but an 83 year old building was just destroyed. C'mon people.

When I first saw the title, I was going to say what a sad situation for them! Now that I know what they actually did, how stupid?! I wouldn't want to be near the fire at all! Especially in my wedding dress!

I dunno, it doesn't bother me. The staff can't exactly do anything for the fire - that's what the firefighters were for. They did say their first question was if everyone was okay. Everyone's already there, you're already getting in your dress - why not just get married? If it's possible without putting anyone in any risk, I don't see why not. And I definitely would have taken a smiling picture, like, "Oh well! We're still happy and married." Being sad about it or not taking pictures wouldn't have saved the building.

I, in no way, thought they should cancel the wedding. I also believe there was nothing they could do to save the building. But it is tragic and I think taking pictures smiling in front of the fire is innapropriate. I feel there are many other ways to document/remember your wedding day and the fire that doesn't include a picture.

See, I feel like the fire is kind of a key part of the wedding day for them, and so it's only suiting to take a picture. If anyone had gotten hurt, then it would have been morbid and disrespectful. But while it's sad a building burned down, these things happen and I don't actually think it's tragic. I don't put that kind of importance on things or places, just people.

My Mom's dress caught on fire the morning of her wedding, and she took a picture in her burnt dress before it got fixed. I'm glad she did, because it's a story I've heard over and over about their wedding day and so it's nice to have a photo to see in reference to the story. I feel like if they used the fire as the backdrop for all their family photos, that would be weird, but a picture or two? Totally understandable.

I thought the photo was staged at first since it didn't look real to me.

Ha, I think I need to clarify - my Mom's dress was hung over a light fixture and someone turned on the light and it burnt through the chest of the dress. So my grandfather carried the dress to the seamstress and my Mom followed in tears. So there's a picture of my Mom in tears at the seamstress's as she tries on this dress with a giant burnt mark on the front. The lady did an amazing job - she replaced the lace on the bodice and replaced the satin inside. I honestly can't see where it's been repaired or if the lace was different. She did an amazing job, in only two hours!
