Redefining Relationship Satisfaction for Cohabiting Couples

I am writing to let you know that a research study is being conducted that may be of interest to you. If you are currently over the age of 18 and in a monogamous romantic relationship with someone you have been living with for at least 12 months, you are eligible to participate in this study. I am a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology and I am interested in whether living together with your partner has any influence on your experience of your relationship with that romantic partner. I am also interested in comparing your partner’s experience of living together to your own. The combined information that both you and your partner provide may contribute to the limited research and literature regarding the impact of cohabitation on romantic relationship satisfaction.Please be aware that your participation in this study is strictly voluntary. There will be no consequences to you whatsoever if you choose not to participate. Likewise, there will be no payment or compensation to you if you do choose to participate, other than the knowledge that you are contributing to deepening the psychology field’s understanding of how romantic relationships can be formed and changed. Your answers will be strictly confidential and anonymous. If you do choose to participate, the study will involve both you and your partner completing a short online questionnaire that will take no more than 20 minutes. This questionnaire will ask you questions regarding your experience of living with your partner, your experience and satisfaction with your relationship, and how you and your partner deal with arguments. You will each need to complete a separate questionnaire, which will both be paired by matching your provided birth dates. Your birth dates will not be used to identify you in any other way. Although you need not complete the questionnaires together, your support in encouraging each other to complete this study will be helpful in providing me with enough couples for statistical analysis.Please feel free to forward this announcement on to other couples who meet the eligibility requirements.
