Custom wedding bands?

I've been going around in circles about what to do with a wedding band. My engagement ring is amazing, but it's the biggest pain to find a band to go with it because it's curved. A regular band leaves a strange gap on one side. I thought about getting two small bands to go on each side to even out the gaps so it doesn't look as bad. But I don't know. I'm indecisive.

So anyways, I'm looking to see what's out there for a custom made curved wedding band that will fit with my engagement ring. I asked at Kay Jewelers (we randomly stopped there to look) and it was WAY over any sort of budget I'd like to stick to. I wanted something as cheap as possible but still pretty obviously. I have also considered getting some aquamarine stones (it's both of our birthstones, plus the birthstone in the month we get married. Yes, a lot happens in March for us, haha).

So does anyone have any ideas of jewelers in MN that might be able to do that for kinda cheap? Hoping to save a little bit of running around trying to price things.. haha. Thanks for any help!

Re: Custom wedding bands?

  • Funny that you would ask this...I am in almost the exact same situation.

I found a curved wedding band at Jared that I liked.

However, I decided to go the custom route and am having a ring made by Robert Foote in Edina.  Just tell them your budget and they will work with it (mine is $1000 or less).  I am having a curved wedding band made that has my birthstone, my fiance's birthstone and a diamond in the middle to symbolize "forever."  Can't wait to see it!  Email me at sndietz@gmail.com if you want to hear more about what they are making me or just stop in there.
  • I was in this situation too!

We got my E ring from Wedding Day Diamonds.  I had an idea of what I wanted but couldn't find it. We were looking at custom too. They provided that service too.

They found exactly what I was looking for once I explained it. So we didn't go custom, but I am still super happy with how it looks.

Their customer service was out of this world!  I have never had such personalized service.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I will have to check those out!

  • I haven't ordered mine yet, but we checked with Graham Jewelers in Wayzata, which is where we bought my engagement ring and my fiance's wedding band (50% off, I might add).  They had a whole book of custom bands they could do for about $200-400, depending on what you want.  I'm getting one done that will have a little extra materiall added so it's the same height as the engagement ring.

  • Keep in mind, those are simple bands without additional diamonds, but if you're like me, that's all I want...the diamonds on the engagement ring are more than enough bling for me.

You can't beat Graham's customer service though.  I've gone back a couple time since we got my engagement ring and they recognize me every time, clean my ring for me, and even changed my watch battery for free.
  • Mine isn't a custom band, but my FI and I picked out a wedding band at Riddles to match my e-ring.  It isn't a perfect fit (there is a gap like you mentioned before), but the jeweler said once he solders (sp?) it together it will look almost perfect like they were made for each other.

  • H bought my rings as a set, specifically because the e-ring has a different shape to it -- a random band wouldn't work with it. I don't know anything about the prices on their custom work, but I highly recommend Arthur's Jewelers.

I am a jeweler, and make custom wedding bands all the time.  My store is Gloria's Jewelry, it is located in St. Paul, you should check us out, it will match perfect, the Diamonds will be hand picked and matched to match your engagement ring, and it will be much less expensive than a chain store.  Just a thought. You can go to our website, gloriasjewelers.com, or come in, our store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10-6, and Saturday 10-4.
