Registry: How many place settings?

So we registered last night and we ended up registering for 10 place settings. I feel like that is a LOT! and not that we will get all of them...but I don't feel like we need that many. What do you think?

How many place settings did you register for??

    You're supposed to register for 12 is the rule I've always heard. We registered for 12 everyday place settings and 12 for china

    We only registered for 8 the standard number that came with both the china and everyday ones, but I don't see us ever needing even 8. Maybe 7, once we have kids and if one set of parents come over, but by the time all the kids are old enough to be eating from those plates I'm sure we'll have gotten new ones! Well, new everyday.

    Whew okay. I didn't know if I was being crazy for wanting 10 place settings :) We do have big families so if sisters/brothers/moms/dads come we will need a lot! This is helpful. Thanks.

    We did 12 but we only registered for every day stuff.  It is nice enough for more formal occasions and I really dont need any china.  As it is, I will be getting both of my grandparents wedding china because I am the oldest girl in the family.

    We only registered for 8 I believe. We will see how they fit in the cupboards and then decide if we want more. If they are something you love it doesn't hurt to have back ups in case one chips or breaks etc.

    We only registered for everyday and it was either 12 or 16 (can't remember). However, with just us and the kids, that's 6 place settings right there.

    We did 10.  That's what my parents did when they got married and even though their pattern has been discontinued, they were able to find extra place settings on Ebay in the last couple years.

    I only registered for every day stuff-I put 8 place settings and then some extra plates because we break those suckers all the time. But yes normally they tell you 12.

    We registered for 12. I think traditionally, people either do 8 or 12.

    We did 10 settings for our fine china.  If we find an everyday pattern we like, I'd do 12 settings for that.

    we did 12. Then if we run out of things on our registry we will bump up to 16.
    I counted how many plates & silverware we have now it was 12-14, thats how we decided.

    For some reason I never really thought about it. But originally I only register for 4 and FMIL was like you need to register for at least 8. So of course I did, I had no idea you were supposed to register for 12! But I have been lost when it comes to the registry since the beginning anyway!

    12 fine china, 8 everyday. Unless you are planning on having tons of kids I think you would need more of the fine china because that is for parties and guest.  That was our logic, at least.

    We only registered for everyday stuff and we registered for 8. We don't know how big of place we'll be living in so I didn't want to register for 12 and not have the room for it.

    I was looking at the 'registry suggestions' at BB&B, and was shocked that they said the standard is 12. That seems like so many! Out little dining table only seats 6 haha. Anyway, we will be registering for 8-10 everyday dishes, and probably 10 china.

    Aaand this reminds me that we really need to register! We keep putting it off...
