Second Weddings

Photographers

Ladies, I'm wondering what you all are planning (or have done) for photographing the second wedding.  Since there's usually none of the classic getting ready stuff, how did you arrange your photos?

Thanks!

My DH is a photographer, so I left that up to him.  He connected with someone who is a journalist and does photojournalistic style wedding photography.  He actually DID do the traditional getting ready stuff, but he caught some very personal and tender moments, and some funny ones as well (hooking my borrowed (mother's) pearls into the lace of my dress and having to stop everything, find my reading glasses and unhook them.  He caught my son hoarding all the goldfish at the reception and the mortified moment when my DS wrapped his napkin around his face like a bandit and rushed the sweetheart table.  Funny now- I could have killed him then.  He caught the progression of intoxication in some of my work friends.  He caught the very intimate dance with our kids.    I was really happy with those moments being preserved.

To answer your questions- we set up a few "must have" shots - in part to be sure to capture photos with some elderly family, and to include everyone.  From there we left it to him, with my DH giving him a sense of the style we wanted.    For us- this worked well.  ~Donna

My best friend's adult daughter is trying to launch a photography business.  She's done a bat mitzvah and a couple of other occasions and i know her work.  So she'll be doing mostly candid shots with a couple of must-have family photos.  If I have to pose, I look fake.  But when my pic gets taken without me knowing it, I look fine.  It's been a problem I've always had.  I just don't look "right" in posed shots.

We had some getting ready shots.  However, the ones I cherish most are the ones of the ceremony itself, and the formals with all our guests afterward.  (We didn't even have a professional photographer at the reception.)  A photographer could probably get some good "getting ready" photos.  However, if you don't feel the need for them, you could just arrange to have him or her arrive a little before the cermony to take pictures of the location, and then the ceremony itself.

I did hire a photographer. I wasn't going to till i was helping a friend put together photos of her mother right after she had passed away. We found this gorgeous old yellowed wedding photo. We both cried. I thought - ah - that's what these are for - later.

But i'm not into the getting ready shots, skipping all that. Going for a more photo journalist style.

We got a wedding package from the B & B that we stayed with for our Wedding Moon, and it included the ceremony and the pics.  The photographer was also our officiant.  The whole thing, with a disc of over 100 shots, was $250, and those pics were better than a lot of the more expensive photography I've seen over the years. We've had some printed, made them into slide shows, etc.    We didn't have any of the getting ready shots, we just had some during the ceremony (truthfully, I don't know HOW she took them, because I don't remember her picking up the camera or putting it down), and then a bunch afterwards, in the sunset, on the beach we were married on.  They were wonderful.

I actually have 2 photographers. One that I have for 2 hours that does all of the classic stuff and one that does more of the photojournalistic and artsy type of photos. She is trying to start her business after being under a photgrapher as a 2nd shooter for a number of years. I think it will be great! We can't wait!!!!
