Re: Retro/Vintage Poll--December

  • First i will start out by saying just how much i LOVE this website hahaha

For this month i am tackling seating cards and table names or numbers. I got the BEST idea for tables from this wedding board. I'm doing table numbers with quotes under them from the notebook and so forth. for example Table 1 "if you're a bird, i'm a bird" and so on. For the seating cards i am actually using vintage keys and the key tags will have thier name and table on them. And lastly i am trying to track down a pair of vintage gloves. I found the most BEAUTIFUL pair at an antique shop but they were too small. They were wrist length made of the prettiest lace and then had a smooth ribbon at the end that tied into a bow. It was absolutely gorgeous!!! I still haven't been able to find anything close to that. If anyone see's something similar give me a heads up PLEASE!!! =)
  • This month I am really kicking my vintage candy dish collecting for my reception dessert bar, and vintage china collecting into high gear. Since I will be driving around Christmas shopping anyway I might as well stop in at secondhand/vintage/antique places and see if they have any. Wish me luck!
  • I'm working on contacting the reception venue to book it this December! We've been having trouble tracking down a phone number, but will be in the area during Christmas and can track it down then. I'm also booking the photographer I found (she is amazing and charges less than $1 500).

Unfortuneateley, I've been struggling with the Rustic Victorian hints lately. I'm taking inspiration from the family pictures we have of my great-grandparents, but I'm not a fan of everything Victorian.

The cake is a basketweave design (hard to see in photo) that we found here on TK. We are doing a two-tiered version with saskatoon berries, blueberries, and raspberries, all picked from the wild (so yummy). My fiance and I were looking at photos, saw this, and knew we wanted it.

  • No vintage inspirations for this month!

Our only wedding-related project is working towards getting our wedding bands engraved.

Sydney, your cake sounds a lot like ours!
DH and I decided we didn't want to spend money on a fancy looking cake, but we wanted our cake to taste amazing.  So, we had a friend bake 6 traditional Finnish wedding cakes, which are basically a mixed wildberry cake covered in whipped cream.  (Fresh fruit and whipped cream is the most delicious thing I can even imagine, hehe!)  For these wedding cakes, usually there are lingonberries or cloudberries as well, but we didn't have access to those.  (but our friend added lingonberry liqeuer into the cake itself).  We did have raspberries, blueberries and strawberries mixed into a white chocolate and cream filling, and piled on top.

Here are a couple photos of our the cakes:

  • I'm a newbie on the message boards, and I don't yet know quite what I'm doing for too much of the wedding.

My inspiration is currently 1950s style prom dresses and watching videos of Balboa Dance.

  • My latest vintage inspiration is my dress! Before I found my dress I focused on a lot of vintage paper and lace, but my dress has put on a whole new twist! My dress is ivory and has a lot of pretty beading on it. Gah! Beading! I've been looking at a lot less lace and a lot more beading. I really wish I could afford some beautiful beaded wedding flats I've found on Etsy for the reception. I have heels already but I KNOW I'm going to kick them off at the reception.

My wedding project for the month? Finish lacing my votive candle holders, and order my invitations (we are doing vintage telegrams).

I've been at a loss for our cake. Our colors are red/black/ivory and I've been looking with no avail. I am thinking about having strawberries or maybe chocolate covered strawberries incorporated. I don't want fondant so we'll be doing a buttercream frosting. And I was thinking of doing a beaded look to reflect my dress. I LOVE the little edible pearls you can get!

I wanted my cake to be simple and classic looking.  I wasn't thrilled with how it turned out, but it tasted amazing.

  • I am also new to the post but I know my wedding MUST be vintage. My boyfriend and I have been watching Mad Men and are both obsessed with learning about the 1950's and late 40's and early 60's. Anything from the fashion, to social acceptance to cars. We have been talking about getting married for awhile and I know he is going to ask any day now, which is funny because we are already trying to plan for a December wedding in Iowa! Now our first pick of a month but he will be deploying soon and that is the month that works between assignments. I believe I want a vintage mermaid dress, and our colors will be red-red, and gray with some accents of black and silver. Not much luck finding red-red bridesmaid dresses.

I think I will do some simple round cakes because I would like a vintage "candy table" and also these fun little desserts!

  • My vintage inspiration is my mom's wedding dress. it's from 1978! :)

I'm also refinishing and reenforcing vintage chairs to use at my wedding and to rent to others. I've acquired a couple cool blue/green books for stacking. My grandmom gave me a couple cool old suitcases to use for stacking. I've picked up a couple different styles of lace table clothes at goodwill 2 weeks ago. For anyone interested, they're having another 50% off sale this weekend where you might be able to find some vintage decor.

I've also been searching craigslist and estate sales for vintage chandlier to no luck.

  • I just got engaged and am trying to start planning a retro 50s wedding. We are planning to book the antique car museum which has a mock old drive in as well. I am open to getting lots of great ideas from these boards to make my wedding unique!
  • I am collecting vintage peices...brooches for my brooch bouquet, postcards for tables numbers, and vintage hankies to hand out at the cermony. I also got this cool idea for the candy bar so china wear will be added to the shopping list for a neat old general store appeal. My brother is a graphic designer and he said he'd make up our wedding invites and send me the PDF(he lives in New York so he'd have to ship the invites to me so I could send them to everyone else, much easier to just print them myself). I hope to book our venue soon o I can REALLY start planning *fingers crossed*

Cake...ptthhh I haven't even started on the cake...
