NO!. This first one is a Stephen Yearick. They're all similar styles so i'd try on any style from this designer first.

I would start looking for other salons that might carry the dress, or a dress in the exact (or almost exact) cut.  The dresses will NOT look the same on you as they do on the model. Which is altered exactly to fit and heavily photoshopped.

DO NOT buy a dress that you haven't tried on.   You simply can't know what it will look like without trying it on.

I *knew* I was going to be an Ian Stuart bride.  In short, I put a gown that I'd admired in a magazine on and it looked like I was wearing jeans.  It did nothing for me.

Then I tried on a gown that I thought I'd hate.  I loved it.   The gown not only made me look special, I made the gown look special.  It came alive on me.

I never would have found it if it weren't for being there in person to try it on.

  • If you can't find that one, find a similar dress by the same designer. You absolutely need to try on a dress before buying one. What would you do if that $1500 dress didn't fit? Or looked awful? You'd be stuck, because you, generally, cant' return special occasion stuff.

As everyone else said. I went to the store convinced one dress was the one and it looked like a potato sack. I ended up with something totally different, and couldn't be happier!

I do completely agree with PPs, since formalwear sizing can be tricky. However, I did buy my dress without trying it on.

Now, I'm no model, but I do happen to have the exact measurements for size 8 formalwear for height, bust, hip, waist, everything. It's totally bizzare, but I am the exception to the rule in this situation since I knew this in advance.

Only you know your body type and your familiarity with wearing formal gowns.
  • Sometimes it's not a matter of simply fitting, it's a matter of overall FIT. I tried on some sample dresses in my size that looked awful on me. And they were BEAUTIFUL on models and on the hangar.
  • Don't buy a dress unles you try it on. There were a few dresses that looked stunning in pictures, but when I tried them on I didn't like them.

I am going to disagree with almost everyone here and say YES, you can buy it without trying it on.
BUT, you do have to know what looks good on you.  Depending on what shape you are (heavier in the bust, wide hips, a rounder tummy, 6'1", plus size), you may not be able to wear some styles and you'll have to be ok with only looking at the styles you know will look good on you.

I bought my dress online from Simply Bridal without having ever visited a single wedding shop.  It was too large and too long but before I even bought it, I had the name of a seamstress who was highly recommended to me by two people who'd had wedding gowns altered by her who I knew would be able to do a great job with mine.
  • No! I 'm telling you this because I did order a dress I didn't try on. I fell in love with a discontinued style this summer, but found out that the designer would still make it if I ordered immediately. I spent the next 5 months agonizing over what the dress going to look like on me. There ended up being a mistake with my order and it never was made. IAt first I was devastated, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise. I went shopping right away and found the most beautiful dress I could possibly imagine. I'd even pinned the dress to my pinterest board, but had completely discounted it because I thought it wouldn't look right on me based on the way it fit the model. The upshot of this is that you will stress yourself into an early grave if you buy a dress you've never tried on and you may be missing out on the perfect dress because you "think" you know what will look good on you.
