Friday Night Wedding?

Is anyone on here having a Friday night wedding?  I know more and moe people are doing them that way, but what are the times that people use?  I only wnat to have an appitizer bar (but it has enough food for a meal in my opinion).  All the Saturdays are taken in the month of October of next year for the place that we want the reception, but they have all the Friday nights open and are willing to give us a discount to book it.  Let me know what the "rules" are for Friday nights!

Thanks!

My dad did a Friday wedding... They had immediate family show up around 4:30 for pictures and since the venue was also a restaurant we all had a more intimate dinner before all the guests arrived... I want to say the ceremony started at 6:30 and then there was a receiving line with campagne and strawberries while the appetizer buffet was being set up. They started the dance about 8pm. Granted, this all happened at one location, if you have the ceremony somewhere other than your reception site, give yourself time for travel. They left the buffet open all night, people could snack during the dance... It was a huge hit! My dad and his wife really liked it too because then they had the whole weekend left to spend together and no one had to give up their entire Saturday.

Appetizers are not a meal.  So if you are hosting guests through any meal time, you should serve them a meal / entree.

You can start the festivities at anytime.  Keep in mind people who will still have to work that day and anyone who might have to travel.

Make sure that you have enough food for a full meal!  Sometimes that may apps costs more than a plated meal - I'd price it out.

I'm getting married on a Friday. I sent the save the dates out a year early....we got a huge discount on room rental and about $10-15 off plated meals compared to Saturday prices. We've gotten discounts w/ our photographer and DJ. Honestly, we are paying for the wedding ourselves so we are still able to get what we want without spending a fortune. Good luck!

I'm also doing a Friday night, and many of my friends have done them (two last summer, two this summer, plus a Sunday coming up). They are SO much cheaper: hall rental, limo, photographer, DJ, even catering. We explained this to our families and they've come around. We're sending out Save the Dates 6 months in advance. We're having our ceremony around 4 - late enough for people to take a half day and still travel - and then proceeding from there.

We are also having a Friday wedding.  Like others have said, we are getting discounts all over the place including our menu prices and hall prices.  We are having everything in one location so we can avoid extra travel because we are planning on having a 5pm or so ceremony.

We are sending our save the dates about 10-11 months ahead to give people a heads up who may have to save time off or other things as the new year approaches.

So far we have saved bundles of money - much more than I anticipated!!!
