Need some venue help

My fiance and I just got engaged and are starting to look a wedding venues. We are looking everywhere (mostly airport area and Allegheny County/Armstrong County line area). The two places that we have really liked on the websites are the Syria Shrine and Lingrow Farm. I am hoping that there are some people out there that have dealt with these two venues and can let me know their experience and some pricing information for Lingrow Farm. I am also looking for some other good places that I can provide a reception for less than 10 grand. Looking forward to hearing from some of you out there.

Lingrow is very expensive. When I priced them last April, they quoted me $7000 and that was just to rent the place for the day. I don't know anything about the shrine. You could look at some hotels. We are having ours at the Mayernik Center and it was love at first sight. And they are totally reasonable for your budget. If you want the whole shindig under $10000, you might need to keep an eye on your guest list and keep it small. HTH!

I don't know anything about Syria Shrine other than it's apparently huge. Ditto Amianne on Lingrow being crazy expensive. If you're looking for something similar to Lingrow, I THINK Armstrong Farms is a little cheaper, but still expensive (in my eyes at least). I do think that to keep the reception under $10K at either Lingrow or Armstrong Farms, you would need a smaller guest list and to get married on a Friday/Sunday. ETA: Our reception is at Holy Cross Banquet hall, and our reception for 200+ guests on a Saturday is around your price. I can give you specifics via PM if you're interested.

When I talked to Lingrow Farm a few months ago, they quoted me 8k just to rent the place!!!! Seriously not worth it. You should def check out  Mayernik Center since you're looking at places out near the airport.

My fiance and I considered Syria Shrine for our wedding. The big draw is its size... you won't have any trouble with guest counts there... I think it can actually hold near 1,000 if necessary!

One concern for us, since we are having so many out of town guests, is that there wasn't a great hotel really close to the site.

If you aren't worried about that, the space may be good for you. I love how the dance floor is in the middle and set down so people mingling on the areas above can see it well... that's a nice feature for your first dance, cake cutting, etc. My school had a prom there once, and we all had a fantastic time. Certainly prom is very different from a wedding, but it still showed me that it was a nice place to have an event.

    Good luck!

Lingrow is expensive; I was quoted $8K to just for the place.  I also looked into the Shrine.  I liked the lowered dance floor too; that was a great selling feature.  What I did not like was the venues holds mutliple weddings in one day, up to three I believe.  That I did not like having my guests confused about where to go or not enough parking.

    Good luck!

Thanks everybody!!! My fiance and I were really dissapointed in how expensive Lingrow is because we were really loving that place. So the hunt continues. Today we are going to look at Lenape Heights, Kittanning Country Club, and back to 3 Lakes golf course (I looked at it yesterday, but I wanted to bring my fiance back to see it). Anybody have any experience with any of these venues? We will hopefully also be checking out the Wendel Inn, Holy Cross Banquet Hall, Mayernik Center, and maybe Armstrong Farms. The only thing that worries about Armstrong Farms is that it doesn't look like it has AC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Armstrong Farms is comparable to Lingrow in price and what you have to set-up yourself.  I have no experience with Lenape but I know it is pretty there.  Since I know the area you are looking in, also consider River Forest Country Club.  I just attended a wedding there and it was nice - the coconut shrimp was great.  My venue is Riverside Landing in Oakmont.  The have two banquet halls each in their own separate building.  You can bring your own liquor which saves.  Everyone I have met has bragged about their food from Phaturos, one of their caterers you have to choose from.

    Good Luck!

Armstrong Farms does have AC in one of their barns (the fieldstone, that's the one we are using).  I will say, they are expensive (not as bad as Lingrow though).  For 7000 we can have the place for the whole weekend and have up to 20 people (wedding party, their families and our close family) stay as well.  They provide chairs and tables and you can use any outside caterer and bring your own alcohol.  I also like that we have a couple options for our wedding ceremony.  Getting married out by the pond but if it rains, we can move it into another nearby barn. Everything is right there so guest aren't going all over the place.  I really love it there!

I booked Holy Cross for our reception, tons of space at it's very inexpensive. You have 4 caterers to chose from and you can bring in your own liquor. They have an area outside of the main room where you can set up the bar and have a cocktail hour. The coordinator there, Mary Kay is the sweetest lady too! I couldn't pass it up for the price

I was just at Lingrow Farms yesterday to look at recepton sites. Just so you know...to rent the facility there is a $8,500 rental fee for the first 100 people. Each additional person is $25 each. This fee does not include food or alcohol. I love the place, but i am not looking to spend that much.
