Day Of Schedules

If anyone has their Day of Schedule can I see it? The more I look at mine the less I like it for the reception. I have looked at other brides from other parts of the country but I feel like that's nothing like the wedding's I've been to as far as when certain things are done. Like some people say to cut the cake at the end to signal people will leave soon while others have the cutting right after dinner, which with a huge meal like we are having I don't know how people will have room for cake!

  • I'll send you mine. It was quite extensive but might give you some ideas. I'll use the email I have for you :)

    Here was ours:

    2:00-4:00 Bride hair and makeup
    4:00        Put on dress
    4:30            First look
5:-00-6:00 Pictures (the venue wanted us done an hour before the ceremony)
    7:00            Ceremony
    7:30            Cocktails
    8:10            B&G Introduction
    8:15            First Dance
    8:20            Welcome by MOG
    8:30            Dinner
    9:30            Cake cutting/Toasts
    10:30         Bouquet/garter Toss
    11:15         Last Dance for guests
    11:25         B&G Private Last Dance

    11:30         Exit

I have seen people cut the cake as soon as the couple walks in so everyone can see it (since people are standing for the introduction anyway) and then it's done and out of the way.  But you can do it either way.  Same with first dance--we did it right when we walked in because we wanted it over with and didn't want to be nervous all through dinner.  But you can certainly do it afterwards too.  If you have a DJ, he or she can  help you with the timeline.

  • My Caterer has dinner lasting an hour...from 7:45 to 8:45. I feel like that's a bit long if they are going to have plates in front of them at 7:45. Am I incorrect?

Amanda, you used the same last dance song we are using and it made me smile :)

We allotted an hour for dinner.  We had jazzy music playing and as people finished, some couples got up and started dancing on their own.  Then at 9:30 we announced the cake cutting and did our toasts and after that, our DJ started playing dance music.

Are you having a plated meal?  The only plated meal dinner I ever went to took at least an hour, maybe more.

If you're having a buffet or stations, I would also plan for an hour--not everyone can go at the same time and it takes a while for everyone to even have their food, much less eat it.
  • It's going to be plated. And my DJ is the Voilin Guy so he will be performing during dinner hour. I'm meeting with him on Wednesday to do finalizations for the schedule. I'll keep the hour allotment and if it seems like people are starting to get bored I will tell him to spead it along.

  • Yeah it's his job to keep the flow going--he should be able to gradually pick things up if it looks like people are ready to start dancing.  I thought our flow was so perfect, so it's always what I recommend.  But there are definitely lots of ways you can structure it.

The plated wedding I mentioned was also one where the B&G cut the cake as soon as they walked in--that way it could be taken away and cut and served plated as dessert for the meal.  So that's an option too.

Yay! Definitely a crowd pleaser. Probably one of my favorite parts of the evening because my Dad and I shared a guitar solo. <div>
</div><div>Regarding Cake cutting- I have seen it done the first thing as a couple walks in and people were really confused. Logistically it works to cut it right away, but people can also be taken by surprise by it. I think doing cake cutting, then toasts later in the evening works pretty great because while people are making speeches, the cake can be cut and served. </div><div>
</div><div>P.S. I'll post my timeline here in case anyone would like to see it. I included a ton of details so that nothing would be missed by photographer/videographer. Ceremony start time at 7pm, reception start time at 7:20, Reception end at 11pm. </div><div>
