Plus Size = No help....

I am a plus size woman living in Cincinnati and I was super excited to goto Bridal and Formal to start the process of looking at trying on my wedding gown. They boasted a wide selection of plus size gowns, however, the gowns that were availabe in my size I wasnt a fan of. It was a heartbreaking experience because the dresses I did love, which all come in sizes up to 30, only had the sample size 6 to try on. So, instead of having a wonderful, exciting day trying on wedding dresses, I spent the day in my underwear while they held dresses up to me asking if I liked them. Now I'm not sure how other plus size brides find their dresses but I was completely embarassed that I couldnt fit into any of the samples. I did find one dress that I did love, but in order to try it on, I have to purchase it and there is a no refund policy! I feel extremely discriminated against because of my size.

How is a plus size woman in Cincinnati supposed to find a wedding dress they love if they can't try anything on?!?

  • There is hope!!  There is a shop in Bellvue, KY called Belle Bridal.  That is where I plan to go. They are by appointment only, but they cater to the plus size bride only.  You get the full bridal experience ala Say Yes To The Dress with whomever you choose to bring and are able to try on many beautiful dresses in an array of sizes.  I've heard nothing but great things about them.  I can't wait to go there!

  • I am plus size and was able to find a dress I fell in love with at David's Bridal.

  • I know it isn't in the area, but there is a shop called Bombshell Bridal Boutique in St. Clair Shores (Detroit), Michigan that is an all plus size boutique.  You might be able to call them and see if they know of any shops in southwest Ohio.  I found out of about them by calling other shops in the area (one of my bridesmaids lives in Detroit so we were shopping in there for the weekend) asking if they carried plus size samples and one shop owners were helpful in suggesting places to try.
Detroit could also be a fun road trip ;-)
  • Heard good things about Belle Bridal and have purchased my dream dress at David's Bridal. I'm a plus size woman and DB was so great to work with. They have increased their plus sized section. Try the Florence or Kenwood stores. HTH

  • Davids Bridal was good for me as well. Also, Alfred Angelo in dayton has a lot of nice dresses in a wide variety/styles and sizes.
  • Idk if you found a place to have the experience you deserve but I wanted to let you know what happened to you was my biggest fear as a plus size bride too.  I am so sorry for your experience!   I have been to a few different places (David Bridal, Fab Bridal, Bridal and Formal and Belle Bride) in the area.  All were different and I felt pressured to buy something by looking at the 6 size sample and I was not okay with spending money on that.  Plus we all deserve that experience!  I can say though that even though not everyone  was totally horrible no one else can compares to Belle Bridal.   Not only can I actually fit into so many dresses but I never felt once for being judged or not dieting so I can fit into something. If anyone is worried about feeling beautiful and has the concern of feeling beautiful and fitting into the grown I 100 percent recommend Belle Bridal.   Once again, I am sooo sorry for your experience and you totally desire a awesome experience!
